If you are going to make these silly claims at least use the full quote.

"But he had also then some good actions. You see always that he always is attracting the game even when he is not playing that well.

"And he has to learn, ‘When I do my job in defending, I will always have my moment.’

"And he will always be decisive, because he has great qualities."

"But I think it’s quite normal, for a player of his age, that there is space for a lot of improvement.

"I think everyone likes him, the fans like him, the team like him, I like him, but also we have to demand him and we have to push him, because he can act on a very high level but he has to show it every day."

Not remotely close to the same thing.
He still said 'not good enough'

He also said 'he has to show it every day'

Do keep making a mountain out of it though :p

Isn't good management knowing who can take being thrown under the bus and who cannot. Watch the Diary of a CEO interview with Evra on how Fergie went for him when he was the best player on the pitch. He chewed him out in front of the whole team. Told him if he carried on he wouldn't play again.

He directed that at Evra because he knew he could take it, he wanted to give Ronaldo a kick up the backside but used Evra to make his point because he knew he'd sulk. He sent a message that even the best player on the pitch wasn't good enough.

Or Pep this week blaming himself for not getting the best from Phillips. Rather than saying the guy hasn't made the grade. Making it sound like he's still fighting for his place. They will get almost their money back when he get's moved on.

Didn't he call him fat last season? Can't possibly be defending that man management :D

Well yes, that is good management. He's understood where the line is to motivate him like Fergie used to. The boy didn't down tools, he said he wanted to stay and fight for his place. Surely that's the reaction you want. Knowing who will be motivated and who will fall apart is surely a huge part of the job.

Fergie also got rid of players who were not going to be up to snuff or who he didn't think were putting in the effort or commitment. You also aren't just managing the player in question, you are managing the whole team. Do you know what the quickest way to lose a team is? Give someone who is acting like a prat some special treatment.

I think thats one of the core issues at United and has been for years. Players look around and see players putting in the minimum effort and getting paid 50% more than them. They see players in poor form being picked week in week out. They see bad behaviour and poor professionalism rewarded. Many people when they see that just become part of the problem.

We have no idea how long Sancho and EtH have been butting heads or what approach he has taken to fix it.

He did, without making them worthless. How he shifted on Veron for next to no loss iirc should have got him manager of the year. Everything I've seen of him from old players he was a complete master of man management and knowing that players are all different and respond to different carrots, or the stick! I watched Luke Steele's interview on Under the Cosh, a United reserve keeper and he gave many examples of how Fergie was top class getting to know players and their families. Even if people may not think he was the best football manager he was certainly the best man manager the game has seen in this country.

The issue I have with this is that we live in a completely different world now. If you transplanted Fergie into todays game he wouldn't get anywhere IMO. Its the same reason Mourinho used to be top class and is now second tier. Certain managers work in certain eras.

Back in the day players didn't have anything like the power they have now. You didn't have teenagers being paid a few hundred thousand a week whilst social media are blowing smoke up their arse telling them they are the second coming of christ. Playing for United used to be the pinnacle of any players career and now its just another club for most of them. United are competing with dozens of teams for their signings instead of a couple. Players come to United and know that expectations aren't what they used to be.

Fergie was a fantastic manager but the game now compared to 15 years ago is chalk and cheese.

Fergie was a unique manager. Compared to Pep who is basically a coach. Fergie was Director of football, manager, coach, borderline CEO of the place with Gill as his secretary to sign the cheques.

This is why we have struggled massively since he retired because of who he was.

Antony is back

Manchester United have issued the following statement on Antony...
"Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so.

"As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.
"As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse."

Martinez out for a few months. Reguilon out injured now too. So we're back down to one fit full back. The guy we brought in as emergency cover for our 2 left backs being injured is now injured too. Fate is absolutely ******* us right now.

Going to tempt fate here but thank god Bruno never gets injured!

I get your point but lets not confuse fate with the Glazers. It's them that is ******* us right now as they have been for over a decade. Ten Hag wanted a new CB in the summer presumably to replace Maguire and as cover for 30 game a season Varane. We missed out on Kim Min Jae and a few others and ended up scrambling to get Amrabat on loan. Martinez clearly hasn't been right this season so in some ways its a relief to know there is an ongoing issue. Slightly concerning that its taken until now to diagnose. The left back missing is prob more of a concern - makes you question the decision not to give Hernandez a chance instead of loaning him to Granada. I suppose its high odds of all three LBs being crocked at once! Although not as high odds at the current run of home cup ties which is apparently c5000-1.
