So I've been tasked with buying a new Vacuum Cleaner. We got a Shark Cordless with Anti wrap about two years ago and the thing just isn't powerful enough on carpet and struggles with anything bigger than cat hair.

Obviously leaning towards corded this time around, but don't want to break the bank. Budget is around £250. Have a mix of hard floors, rugs and carpets. Moving to a Bungalow in a few weeks so carry weight isn't really an issue. It also needs to be able to cope with cat hair and corse dog hair.

Thanks guys

You're seeking to replace a 2 year old vacuum? Crikey.

Just grab a corded Miele, the most expensive you can afford, and do a weekly proper vac. The shark is then a top up.

Why dont you have one of each?

We have a Bosch cordless vacuum that mainly gets used downstairs (all hard floor) then sometimes to do the stairs.

To be fair it handles carpet ok, but we have an older Dyson corded that lives at the top of the stairs we do the upstairs with as its (mostly) carpet.

Henry’s are a good, more budget-friendly option at around £130. Powerful enough for my use. I don’t know how they compare to a dyson/shark etc.

Personally, I've always gone for refurbished / slightly older design vacuums.

IMO, this is one of the best.

+1, agreed, a reconditioned Dyson represents good value.

Our original Dyson that was the 1st model released was probably one of the best we ever had. I am not sure if there are any of these still around that can be bought reconditioned?
The build quality seemed a lot more robust than any of its successors which seem a bit "plastic" in comparison.

We have mainly had Dyson but the last one was woeful

Bought a Henry, used once and the Mrs instructed it was banished

Got a Shark now and would suck a golf all through 30 feet of hose - awesome thing :D

Currently have a Miele c3 which I love along with an old henry as a spare.

Had a few different cordless Dysons and Sharks over the years but ended coming back to a corded Miele.

I tend to be pretty hard on vacuums, so I get cheap VAX, They are small, powerful and light. Something like the Vax Air Stretch can't be beaten for less than £100.

If you want quiet, buy a Miele.

Partner has just won one of those Samsung Jet Bot AI+ Robot Vacuum's at work, worth £900...

I'd rather flog it as I'm not convinced by them but she's adamant we're keeping it and it'll be lifechanging
