It is in some way but so far behind in others. Read the op and come back to me on so far in front with your windows xp control panel. I read what he wants and AMD have the package he is asking for. No mention of DLSS or Ray Tracing so i will assume until he says other wise that's not his priority. Try ticking off the boxes he's after and you can easily see Nvidia can't provide that. 3090's still sell well so the outlay on a decent deal could be as little as £100 which is not to much.Do you hear me trying to justify my purchase?
Fair enough if not everyone wants RT performance.
Frankly I do. Plus DLSS and the rest of that ecosystem is far superior to the AMD equivalent.
I agree but the op is wanting more than gameplay/fps he wants integrated features that Nvidia don't provide. Wouldn't be off the charts to sell his 3090 for £600 possibly a bit less and pick up a £700 7900xt so not a big outlay for his needs. Gotta be the correct deal and sale of his card to make much sense though. I think a lot of long term Nvidia users underestimate just how good the AMD software is compared to the caveman control panel that Nvidia offer. The xtx is to much but the xt at the right price and model ain't to far a stretch.I probably should've worded that better, I meant to say that it just isn't enough of an uplift to justify the cost.
Op should just wait for next gen, I used to justify my excessive purchases similarly citing temperatures, noise and what not, but at the end of the day if I can play games just fine without looking at the FPS counter then I really don't need to upgrade, I wear headphones 90% of the time so noise isn't much of a concern either
Op is saying some games are struggling at 144+, other than shooters I've never really felt the need to go above 80 FPS tbh, and most FPS shooters that basically necessitate 120+ fps are already tuned to run on potatoes anyways![]()
I'd still say don't bother, Nvidia still offer the better all-round package imo. The fact that AMD plain *refuse* to offer a hardware-upscaling option even though the 7000-series is capable is a big big minus imo and I've been an AMD fan for a while. FSR (during motion) is a far subpar experience compared to the latest DLSS one.I agree but the op is wanting more than gameplay/fps he wants integrated features that Nvidia don't provide. I agree but again read the op and what he is after, DLSS/RT is not mentioned. He wants built in software to control all parts of his card, hardware monitoring, fan control and a cool running card none of that is a 3090. If he does value RT and DLSS of course stick with the 3090 and again would have to be a good money swap to even consider it. Just depends on how important these features are for him as well.I'd still say don't bother, Nvidia still offer the better all-round package imo. They just don't seem to have the resources to compete on an even level and at this rate never shall.
For how easy this is to do even without AMD's 'help' I'd still say keep it, couple of YT videos later for dumbasses and he's sortedHe wants built in software to control all parts of his card, hardware monitoring, fan control and a cool running card none of that is a 3090.

I know but he wants an all in one which is why he's even considering it. He knows it not gonna be a huge boost performance wise at 20% no RT but he obviously don't want to use 3 programs and the 3090 requires more taming than he would like. My point is what he would like control wise and Nvidia is not offering it. If Nvidia got off there butts he would not be here. I still don't know why they just don't upgrade that part as they are ahead in almost every metric but give there users stone age software. Jen ain't stupid as we know so there must be some logic to it but i can't find it.For how easy this is to do even without AMD's 'help' I'd still say keep it, couple of YT videos later for dumbasses and he's sorted![]()

You certainly have mate. 3090 v 7900xt is not something most off us would do but in the current climate a few hundred maybe less for what you want is not a stretch hahaha. After all 1600 bucks is the new best deal.
Could say the same about Vram and control panel on Nvidia. If RT/DLSS is not your thing then Nvidia have there compromises the other way as they are slower and more expensive. No sure on the phone side either as Samsung for me are better than Iphone and less restrictive. If i bought a 4080 like you i would be 75% more expensive for 10% more performance. It's really all in what your needs are to what you should buy.I feel like AMD is always a compromise and the quality lies with Nvidia. Bit like Samsung, good but always something up with their phones.
Jensen wasn't wrong when he launched the 20 series and said "it just works"
You neglect to mention that yours was a BGrade deal, and if it breaks it's nothing but an expensive door-stop.Mine an outlier definitely was not at £800.

I'm sure 4080s are not 75% more expensive than a 7900XT? Mine an outlier definitely was not at £800.
I'm tempted to move over to AMD for a few reasons
- Software, the amount of inbuilt software, That covers my needs without additional bloat
- would not need msi afterburner anymore as its built in ( i undervolted)
- Fan control ( i like a silent system)
- I've not had a AMD card since 7990! ( i had 3 and they all died)

Which part, AMD offer what he has stated, Nvidia need multiple programs. AMD software has much more control than Nvidia offer along with full monitoring of your system. This is some of the most far fetched weak sauce justification for a purchase I have seen in a while!![]()
Yeah the pricing makes the 7000 series and 4000 series look a bit daft. Maybe the 7900XT is starting to be worthy of a look if your sporting anything in the RTX 3700 or RX 6700XT or below brackets but otherwise I would just keep what I have.I would update to a rebar bios first.
I've got a 3090 at 34" UW and nothing seems worth it other than a 4090 and isn't worth the money.
