Road Cycling

Went for a coffee ride on Saturday to Giro - Londoners know ;) with stop on way home at Rapha - 100km

Wife changed her plans on Sunday so I could cycle again and visited Essex for 50km coffee bimble :)

Oh dear lord. South London! :p You'd have to be from Central or South West to know about somewhere down there I think. Even then, I would generally only ever cycle out of London... so even if there was an amazing place in say, Camden or on Holloway Road or something, I would never be going there.

Sometimes it's really beneficial working in IT. Our HR person just said an email hadn't been delivered and asked if I could check our web-filtering. blah blah blah

Turns out the email was about getting cycle-to-work instated here! I think I'll finally use that to try and get a Di2 upgrade. Yeah, I wont have snazzy internal cable routing but having di2 should hopefully mean I won't feel the need for a new bike any time soon.

Finally! The 21st century welcomes you :p

Every time I end up cycling during busy periods on our roads I remember how much I ******* hate it. I went on a 22km ride and I was stopped for 9 minutes out of 1:02. I sat at traffic lights for about 7 minutes of that and then the rest was sitting in traffic. I probably crawled along for another few in traffic. This was on a route that gets into country lanes after 10 minutes usually so probably 35 minutes of my ride was in built up areas instead of 20 due to car related faff.

I had one ******* pull out from being parked and swing out so far that I stuck out a bent hand and whacked his wing mirror. He saw me but I'm a cyclist so who cares right?

Has another just swing into the bike lane as I was coming along because a car was turning right and he didn't want to wait for a few more seconds. Obviously didn't check that someone wasn't coming up in the bike lane.

Coupled with the anti-cyclist BS that I hear from even the most seemingly level headed people I know it just ends up grating on you. You feel like you are going a bit nuts at times.

Honestly, more then a little bit of me was looking forward to autumn finally arriving so I could just jump on the indoor bike after work and not have to deal with this rubbish for another 6 months. No doubt I'll be desperate to get outside again in March and start hating the car centric world we live in. The ridiculous thing I find is, 95% of car journeys suck because of car centric planning and too many people driving.

If it helps, I had a lovely 100km ride today. I don't think I once got stopped by traffic or a traffic light :p

Clearly, the weather is rather different this weekend. It's amazing, last weekend it touched on 26°C and I remember feeling the burning sensation on my skin at the end of my ride. Tomorrow it says it will be around 6°C when we start our ride. That's pretty much time for the heated gloves again!

Today there were a few pools I had to roll through...

I think you know it doesn't Andy! :p

The whole thing just gets to me sometimes. The worst part is people putting my health and life in danger not even to save time. Its like the idiots that won't let people out of a side road even though they can clearly see that 30m down the road they will have to stop for traffic or lights. Its just that complete self centred nature that people have behind the wheel. If you bother to pay attention it just permeates every journey on bike or by car. People pulling into the outside lane going 60 and causing the whole lane to slam on their brakes because they didn't want to wait another 20s to pull out safely and properly.

I love cycling but as soon as the traffic gets even remotely busy its just a miserable experience. Constantly on guard for the next driver whos going to do something really stupid.

I sometimes forget how lovely a crisp Autumn day with perfect sunshine is. You wrap up warm and head out into the sun and its lovely. Took the boys out for a walk for an hour to give the missus a break and then came back and went out for a few hours on the bike.

I don't think I will be doing too much cycling in the wet miserable conditions of most of the English winter but when the sun is out I certainly will.

3degrees this morning...took me ages to get dressed...shoe covers for warmth took most LOL

will be fun dressing back from office cloths in to them snuggly leg and feet warmers LOL

it's this time of the year, when you need layers on layers in the morning and not many of those in afternoon...only 2 days this week..as storm Babet is on it's way and forecast is wet wet wet ...

might dust off wattbike at home...

How many of us are on Zwift? I’m going to spend a few weeks getting my fitness back but I have all the horrible long routes left (the pretzel and Quatch Quest)

Misery is often better shared. When the winter evenings creep in and we’re all inside does anyone fancy tackling them?

Save them all for the festive 500? I'll be up for joining a group ride over Christmas to help get through the miles.

another day in the life of labbby post. So the other day I thought I would have a good old mooch through my strava when I noticed one of my KOM's this year had gone. I went to investigate and what I found shocked me to the core

I’m on it. Martin riggs is my name on there. I’ll be doing the festive 500 as well.

It's funny isn't it. I remember seeing an eBike KOM, way quicker than then others, so I had a look at the full 'ride'. There were a few comments and then the guy himself saying something like 'well, there's no catagory for recording on my moped?!'. No mate, there's a reason for that! What do some people think Strava is for? Route planning in the car or on their motorbike?

Just report I guess. Hopefully Strava will deal with it.
