My twins just about to turn 18 so was going to get them a ps5 among other car related things due to way the world is ideally not looking to spend much more than 550 each (roughly psn ps5 and a new game) and would prefer pcs if I can make it work. They have being playing overwatch 2 on their basic intel HD gfx laptops/ps4 . They also play seige on ps4 so needs to run those sort of games at half decent quality.

I haven't built a new gaming pc for a decade being making do with laptop for sims and ps5 for action games.

Did have a look but the gfx kine up doesn't make much sense to me any more!

Best I could do looking around roughly;

I5 10400f (lga1200)+ 8gb ram + 1tb m2 + rx6600 8gb + case + 450w psu is 550 some bits from ocuk couple not

However am I better off getting an i3 12100f (lga1700) so they can upgrade later on as lga1200 is dead?

Also is gfx card any good or what would you do, basic case is wanted, windows free through college apprently, they have kboard and mice from ps4, and grandparents buying them a monitor for Xmas so just base unit I know it's not a big budget but that's life especially having to double up on everything!

RX 6600 is fine, they're decent cards can even be pushed to 1440p.

I would definitely go with the i3-12100 if you can afford it, though it's not necessary just for playing those games.

The 10100F can be even better value than the 10400F for a basic system, since with H510 or B560 it's a very cheap, almost disposable combination for esports.

Does it need to have wireless?

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £637.88 (includes delivery: £7.99)

No need for wireless however the kids "nerdy" friend at college is trashing intel and he has a ryzen which is better apprently! Does the amd alternative better at this sort of price point? Thanks again

It depends which CPUs you're comparing and at the low-end it is just whatever is the best deal you can get. If there's a decent B660 or B450/B550 board at a good price, then the other option might be better value.

This review covers the i3-12100 v 5500:

TPU found the 5600 and 12400 were within 1% of each other @ 1080p, here.

Oi don't let anyone hear you say that my brother!
You'll be getting death threats! I have a 4070 and I haven't got enough vram (apparently :cry: :rolleyes: )
