GPU upgrade - Nvidia 4070 or AMD 7800XT?

I said if you wanna use use it.
You can switch off or set most settings to low in all games... By your logic demonstrated here, we should all just use cards from 4+ years ago and turn settings off lol
It doesn't necessary work like that. In Starfield for example going from Ultra to Low only yields 37% performance increase and you notice the graphics degrading.

On the other hand, turning off ray tracing gives massive performance boosts and you don't even notice any difference in visuals while gaming.

I agree RT adds very minimal eye candy in relation to gaming graphics and is the feature I don’t notice on or off!

This quite quickly illustrates and explains with RT GI is.

Yes he is nervous, they are actual devs being on stage, a long way from their natural habitat of a desk, they are not trained presenters.

What should people do who don’t have cards and need something right now?

They should get whichever fits their budget with the features they want.
Not having a card at all is different then already having a card and just making do for a few more months

2nd hand market is also good.
2nd hand 3080/TI/12GB/90 etc are all cheaper than the 4000 series with very similar performance. Same as 2nd hand 6000 cards by AMD, they're very similar to 7000 series but a good chunk cheaper

If you’re trying really hard to ignore RT, i guess you might not see it. In games that do it properly it’s a bigger jump than going from low to ultra settings.

And by properly i mean heavy RT usage, not AMD’s - here’s RT shadows and maybe reflections - sponsored games.

Ontopic, 4070. Even if you don’t care about RT, DLSS offers way better quality. And as you can tell by looking at new releases coming this and next year, there’s a trend of no more crossgen games, so ps5 specs being the lowest bar, so upscaling is a necessity even on the lowest settings/res because the bar has been raised.

Look at aw2, phantom liberty, avatar etc.

While RT is impressive when used properly not all great looking games need it. The link below cracked me up as he thought this game had great RT due to how good it looks.

Horizon Forbidden West top class RT
