Glad I didn’t go for the GV70 now

Genesis to be axed as standalone firm in UK and merge with Hyundai

What difference does it make though? The cars are still being sold?

Exactly. You were gonna lease/company car it anyway. What possible side effect would this have.

I'm after an electric charger to be installed at home. Do any provider normally offer any discounts during the holiday period?

Doesn't this just mean they will be sold via Hyundai dealers?
It's not materially different to the Polestar/Volvo set up where all the servicing etc is done by a Volvo dealer.

That said I do wonder how long some of these new brands are going to be around or if they are going to become another Infinity in the UK.

As much praise as there is for Genesis EV's, I've only ever seen one in the metal, A GV60 in that vile green/yellow colour. I get it is a new brand but I'm note sure there is much, if any brand recognition in the UK for them. Combined with the price and the somewhat gordy styling on some of the models, I'm not sure how many they are going to shift if they can't get some momentum like Polestar.

Haha, my friend said as I left work today "HEY MAN MY GV70 ARRIVES TOMORROW"

Not sure this really makes any difference. It wasn't kidding anyone it was a Hyundai*. It's just like a Scion/Toyota or Infiniti/Nissan type brand lure wasn't it?

Edit: On reading it, it is a total nothing burger. They are just getting rid of the legal entity called Genesis.

In Hyundai related news, the new Kona looks like a good improvement on the old car but it is also a lot bigger than the old car.

List price is is a bit spicy though, starts at £35k for the 48kwh which you probably don't want all the way up to £46k for a fully loaded 65kwh version. It looks like dealers are already offering £4k off list which is a more sensible price.

if anything you now have an instant dealership to take your gv60 to, increasing perceived value (like MG5/4 .. or your Geely ex30 to volvo, versus tesla or polestar service arrangement)

still no decision on the eu ev rules of origin that should start jan24 - how are they accomodating that prospect in new leases/purchases,
used ev values would be bumped up too.
As the clock ticks down to the 1 January 2024 ROO introduction, new calculations lay bare the impact the new rules, set under the EU-UK Brexit deal, would have on vehicle affordability and competitiveness. Electrified vehicles that do not meet the new thresholds will be subject to a 10% tariff when traded across the Channel, resulting in a combined cost of £4.3 billion.1 For the consumer, this could mean an average price hike of £3,400 on EU-manufactured battery electric vehicles (BEVs) bought by British buyers, and a £3,600 rise on UK-made BEVs sold in Europe.2

I’ve seen a few GV60’s out on the road.
Merging with Hyundai isn’t the premium experience buyers will want !
They are Hyundai though. The GV70 is pretty much a EV6.

To be honest they never seemed anymore premium really. But like Acura and Honda. Genesis always reminded me of a games console anyway.

The Genesis do feel more premium than the Kias or Hyundai, particularly the interiors are better places to be, also front charging port FTW

I went to see them but with discounts and spec might as well get an ev6.

If you read the press release, their brand strategy was never to have their own dealership but to partner with select folk. All they've done is got rid of Genesis UK LTD or w/e. It is a total nothing news.

They'll just go round and change the badges on them all :D

Same as the KN brand. Which is a way for people to own a Kia without having to say they own a Kia.
