Crashes to desktop - AMD/Radeon 6800XT-7900XT

Ghost recon restarted my computer, cyberpunk stopped saying driver stopped responding? But have been down the driver route (installed/reinstalled) and I know the card/PSU are not the issue.

Sins works like nothing is wrong. Wondered could also be SSD? Ive got Breakpoint and Cyberpunk installed on the same SSD?

So will try Witcher 3 (installed on same ssd as sins) to rule out the SSD issue.

Then if that doesnt work, new board, new windows.

After that, god knows - just play Sins for the rest of my life.

Ok so wasnt the SSD, it's also definitely something to do with GPU full utilisation.

Games only crash if they are 100% utilising the GPU. So sins and starfield use about 60% so they are working fine. Cyberpunk, Breakpoint, Witcher crash after 5-10 mins.

Any recommendations? Also ive noticed in the amd overlay the integrated CPU graphics are pulling power, should i look to disable these?

AS Henson has said try underclocking by 50hz - 100hz and see how that goes. I had a 7850 many years back that I had to underclock by 50hz, I actually altered the bios so that it was like that out of the box, never had a single issue after I did that. Not a great solution I know but honestly for the sake of 50 hz it might just be worth it.

Two random thoughts, does both your gfx cards have a turbo/quiet switch on them? if so set to quiet and try? Reason i say, i had insane random crashes on my 6800XT, no rhyme or reason for them, i swapped everything and they still happened. Turned my cards bios to quiet and it has been rock solid.
Second thought, recently watched a Jay2Cents video where he had a comp doing wild random crashes, turned out one of the fans was being blocked by some tubing and not spinning, was causing some kind of volt protection in the psu.

Just thoughts, i know what its like to be at whits end with hardware!

I can't remember if you've already addressed this (TLDR) but there have been several BIOS revisions for your motherboard for both GPUs and 7000 X3D CPUs so you definitely need to update your BIOS if you haven't already.

Just a random thought but have you checked the temperature of your motherboard mosfets? Those were once a problem for me a few motherboards ago ;) Stuck a fan directly over them and all was fine.

This will be a lot of messing around and time consuming but your friend who lent you the PSU do they pref have an Intel system with a somewhat power hungry nvidia card he can lend you and they can test the 6800 XT / 7900XT for you?

Putting an nvidia card that can pull some power in your system will eliminate the possiblitiy of it being your motherboard and pinning the blame on the AMD GPU's. (Though I doubt its this as you have two cards now with the same issue unless its driver related)

If the AMD GPU's run fine in your friends Intel or AMD system its proberly either your motherboard and/or motherboard drivers or some weird AMD GPU and motherboard driver software issue.

Have you also run a memory test on the RAM or seeing if you can get the system to crash using 1 stick at a time in each one of the slots. ( could your friend test it also if he has a DDR5 setup). Also check that health/status of the SSD thats its not overheating or failing.

Finally try checking the CPU its self that the motherboard pins are all in good shape and the pads on the bottom of the cpu are fine also and that the cooler is installed correctly as years ago I thought RAM channel B was broken as it was crashing my system and I lost the ability to have dual channel on one of my setups. Later found out online that the cooler was over tightened or not enough and when I reinstalled the cooler never had an issue with it after.

Yep 40 mins on breakpoint, think all is looking good.

I don't know 100% what fixed it but - i noticed something wasnt working in device manager this morning - AMD PSP 11.0 - found the only way to get it working was by updating the bios. Which i thought id already updated.

I also underclocked and slightly undervolted the GPU, but if im honest i think it was the Bios that was the source of my misery, as i already underclocked the GPU previously to try and solve the problems with no success.

Can't keep up with this, crashes started again last night i.e. went back to can't play for more than 5 mins. Saw someone had mentioned the memory and disabling EXPO which I did and bingo 40 mins and cyberpunk 1hr on Breakpoint. The memory is running at stock though now 4800mhz, not sure how happy my 7800x3d is about this. Has anyone had this before, should i replace the memory?

Ram as noted when unstable can cause issues that are hard to pinpoint.
Usually its a combination between, bios, ram, mboard and power for stability.

Can set ram manually and not use expo and such.

then run ram test for stability.
I use testmem5 with 1usmus_v3

Depending on ram one can set using buildzoids settings if having Hynix modules

Have you got NZXT Cam software installed?

Another thread with black screens on a 4090 is up and they're running Cam.

Try uninstall/disabling it before trying a game.
