Evening everyone,
I’m thinking of treating myself to a new setup.

I currently have a pc with a gtx 1070, i5 6600k, 512 gb sata ssd and 650w power supply so thinking I would need to upgrade everything.

I mainly play single player aaa titles and indies but have been on the ps5 for the last few years so am a little out of touch with the pc side these days, but having bought an oled steam deck I’m keen to get back into pc gaming.

I have a 1440p 60hz dell monitor but have a seperate budget to upgrade to a 1440p with vrr and a higher refresh rate if worth it for single player content as I’m not really into fast paced competitive shooters if you have any recommendations for this that would be great.

Cheers guys

Cheers for the replies, do you think this will be ok for the next 3-4 years at 1440p with higher/max settings at 60-120 fps. I appreciate it’s hard to future proof but the 1070 and 6600k lasted quite a while

Yes but it depends on individual game demands.

If you can afford it get the 7800x3d and buy the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120se for £30 it's the performance king.

It's well worth the stretch imo.

The 7800X3D will last pretty good, but the 4070 won't do 1070 lifespan (7 years), those cards have done abnormally well and the GPU market has changed for the worse (in terms of price/performance).

Ok cheers.
I can cope with a graphics card upgrade or processor, just not having to do a full upgrade as I am doing now.
From what I understand the am5 platform should be good for the next series of processors so can always sell when I upgrade.
From my research it seems pc gaming is abit of a Micky take from a price to improvement ratio but hey-ho beats paying silly money for games and a yearly subscription
