Hey folks, going to upgrade my sons gaming PC graphics card, it currently has a GTX 1660 (non TI/Super) and the monitor is a 1080p curved 240hz display.

Whilst I am not looking for 240fps :D I think the current one gets about 70-80 on quite a few lower settings in Fortnite - so would be nice to increase the details a bit and get, around 140+ fps if possible?

I have been fleeting between looking at a 2060, 2060 Super, 3060, 3060 TI or 4060.
The 2x series can be had a lot cheaper second hand, but wondered if it's worthwhile from the 1600?

The rest of the kit is 16GB / AMD Ryzen 5 2600X

Thanks in advance! :)

It's a bit of an upgrade, but probably not going to help get much over 100fps, especially if you want to up the details at the same time.

If you have a look here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/gpu-hierarchy.18951645/ it gives you a bit of an idea as to how the older generation cards stack up against newer ones.

I'd certainly avoid the regular 2060 as the majority are still 6GB the same as your 1660, so you aren't even going to get any more VRAM.

Radeon RX6650XT would be a fair upgrade and they were available for around the £200 recently, failing that Radeon 7600 or RTX 3060 12GB are around the £250 mark, and these should get you nearer to 144fps at somewhere close to mid range settings

From a 1660, I'd ideally look for a card on the level of a 7800 XT or 4070, since while a 2060 is an upgrade, TPU has it at only 35 percent faster (3060 is 57%).

Unfortunately those cards you mentioned all have VRAM issues (apart from the 2060 12GB or 3060 12GB), though I don't know how applicable that is to Fortnite.

The 4060 is decent in terms of power consumption and performs very well in some games, but it is usually overpriced.

A 5600 would help with FPS whenever CPU bottlenecked, since Zen+ wasn't great in that respect.

Thank you these are brilliant suggestions, had not thought of AMD to be fair, I have no problem with either AMD or Nvida going to browse now...

So the RX 6650 XT 8GB is around £240 new and the 3060 12GB £264 - the 4070/7800XT would be a fair bit out of budget, I would probably say the £250 ish mark is ideally where I would be at?

A 6650xt will give you 242 FPS in Fortnite at ‘competitive settings’ but as others have mentioned your CPU is pants and upgrading to a 5600 will give you the horsepower you need at 1080p

The 6650xt is about 10 to 15% faster than the 3060 on average.

Thank you very much!

7600 Ordered! And a cheeky Ryzen 5 5600 CPU ordered! He has a B450 Aorus Elite - which supports that CPU (i'll upgrade the bios first) which is even better!

Thanks for all the helpful advice everyone
