Unusually for me, I'm looking for an FPS which is limited on story and slow sections, just with excellent shooting gameplay, preferably no faffing with things like chest high walls and superpowers, no open world or skill trees, no exploration or survival horror, just a straight up well made FPS. Any suggestions?

Edit: and when I say modern, I mean anything in the last 10 years or so, I really don't play many straight up FPS games.

The closest I can actually think of to the "tone" I'm looking for is the Uncharted games, although they're obviously third person

Your asking for a game which they started phasing out in favour of superpowers and tactics etc so the chance that someone developed a game without this published and it didn't tank is slim.

I think your wanting a classic type of game that has arcade vibes ie no levelling or level increases, just story missions to complete.

This would have been found on xbox / playstation 2 and N64 / Gamecube era games but after that they started skill trees.

This is kind of my point - surely someone is still making games like this?

@Kyle009 not yet, but it looks like the best option I've seen so far!

The recent Wolfenstein games are good, although the storylines and characters are also legitimately decent in them too. Easy enough to ignore if you want to though.

I'm very happy with a decent storyline, I'm just not in the mood for watching hours of cutscenes or having to play through a load of slow sections for atmosphere.

This is all very rare for me, I usually can't stand a quick shooter, but I'm in the mood for something pretty mindless!

A few years old now, but hard reset is pretty old school.

Any of the Wolfenstein trilogy. In fact the Wolfenstein trilogy.

COD campaigns in the older games are run and gun. Short and not super challenging, likely available 2nd hand cheap too.

I've not played it myself but I think Metro fits in to your description.

Also general boomer shooters, older in style yes but that sort of goes with the territory.

I also presume you've gone through the classics of Half Life/HL2 including episode 1 and 2, and then Entropy: Zero/Entropy: Zero 2 which are seeming popular nowadays?

While it's older than 10 years 'd highly recommend Time Splitters - Future Perfect, specifically the xbox version as it has full 4k support when played on a Xbox Series or One X console.

Titanfall 2 with the caveat that there's some wall-running and powers :) Totally worth it though.

If you like rock music try out Metal Hellsinger
