Hello everyone

First off I would like to wish everyone a happy new year.

I mainly play on the Xbox series X and really enjoy playing DayZ, so have been considering moving over to PC but I know nothing about what is the right PC specifications for a build (I have looked at the required specs on the internet but seeing as I don't really know a lot about building PC's so will get one pre built or input my own parts on custom PC build)

So I looked at the requirements on the internet and in the spoiler is what it says hopefully it's upto date

Minimum system requirements:

CPU:
Intel Core i5-4430
RAM:
8 GB RAM
GPU:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD R9 270X
DX:
Version 11
OS:
Windows 7/8.1 64-bit
STO:
16 GB available space
Sound:
DirectX®-compatible

Recommended system requirements:

CPU:
Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD R5 1600X
RAM:
12 GB RAM
GPU:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD RX 580
DX:
Version 11
OS:
Windows 10 64-bit
STO:
25 GB available space
Sound:
DirectX®-compatible

I would want a full build from PC, mouse, keyboard, monitor with a good sound card and not just onboard. I have a steelseries 9x headset which I use on the Xbox although I don't think it's too great in my opinion as I find it hard to pinpoint where the sounds are coming from or it could just be my poor hearing :-)

A few things I've been told by other PC players on discord is the following:

Ryzen 7 7800X3D seems to be the best gaming cpu
For RAM you’re best getting around 32gb over 16gb
Get the fastest SSDs you can afford at least one fast one for your games.
I would consider your monitor also 1440p with fast response time 1ms

I would like the PC to be quite future proof so I'm willing to spend around £2-3k max so that it will last me a long time, now that is probably an overkill budget for a game like DayZ. It doesn't have to be the whole budget spent just a good enough PC that will last a while, the cheaper it is the better for my wallet or for the wife to spend :-) but you get what you pay for at the end of the day.

Regards,

Gary.

If you’re going to spend 2-3k, you want to be aiming for a 4k build rather than 1440p. Like you say it will be overkill for DayZ but you’d have a solid gaming setup that will last for a good few years!

I’ll jump on my laptop later to spec you components but after a quick look this seems a good start point:

You would have budget left for monitor etc

I don't play this game so I can only comment generally, but those requirements are pretty low, even a 1K PC would smash the recommended specs.

As said above: that kind of budget is really for a top-end 4K PC, you definitely don't need 3K for a decent 1440p gaming PC.

Here's a modest 1440p PC spec:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,909.76 (includes delivery: £0.00)

I know next to nothing about peripherals, soundcards, etc, so I wouldn't buy any of that stuff from my spec.

I've got a feeling that's a USB headset, so the soundcard wouldn't be necessary, I'm not convinced it would be an improvement over his current Steelseries either. I'd be more inclined to go with a good stereo headset like the DT990 or Philips fidelio X2HR's (which are regularly on sale for £70-80), there's software that can be used to introduce virtual surround which is all the Logitech and Steelseries cans do anyway.

I'd personally look at a better mouse/keyboard too, unless the OP is hoping to use a gamepad for DayZ (not sure I'd recommend that personally). I would recommend looking up Patriot Viper V760 keyboard, it has full RGB, USB passthrough, a detachable magnetic wrist rest, and brown mechanical switches. It comes to around the £30 mark and is an absolute steal at that price. As for mice, you can't go wrong with the Logitech G402 or 502 depending on your preference.

I would say it's worth nipping into a physical store that lets you demo keyboards (and mice), some people don't get on with certain switch types, I just have a preference for browns.

Thank you for your replies Tetras & Gray2233.

I know the specs for the game ain't too demanding and the main reason for willing to spend more than meets the requirements for it at the moment is incase the requirements change in the near future. I might want to play other games such as Battlefield, Call of Duty, Football Manager or if a new game comes out and takes my fancy, I know I will have a decent enough PC to run it plus I want to get a half decent one now instead of spending money on upgrades within a year or two.

Maybe I will get a new headset infact I hate my Steelseries headset it's pretty rubbish for the Xbox in my opinion it keeps cutting out on bluetooth connection to my Xbox and the voip in DayZ doesn't always work I have to keep resetting my Xbox but that could be another issue. I'm sure I paid around 180 for it a few years back, wish I would have got a different one but hey ho is what it is.

I will be playing on keyboard/mouse for any games I play on PC. Maybe I will nip into a store and try then as I didn't know what you meant about brwon switch type, I had to google it to see what that was.

What Steelseries HS do you have currently? My 7P+ and 9x are both awesome headsets.

I have the 9x. Glad you have no issues. When I'm playing DayZ on the Xbox it constantly cuts out so have to reconnect it.
Hmm it shouldn't be connecting via BT mode for Xbox, as it uses Xbox proprietary wireless. Might want to check you have set that up correctly. I wouldn't use BT on PC for audio due to lag. Definitely worth checking out another headset. 7x+ or 7p+ would be some good choices IMO.

I just had a quick look to see if there is a fix to the connection issue and first thing I saw is that it does use Xbox wireless so maybe that is how it connects and I got mixed up and thought it was via bluetooth. Will try a few of the suggested fixes hopefully they will help or to the bin it goes.

Maybe sell it to CeX and recoup some money. I'd still check out the 7X+ if you can find it. I believe it works on all the major consoles, including PS5 and Xbox. Comes with a dongle for PC, mine has been solid and a really good headset.

In terms of the rig, probably a bit overkill for DayZ, but if you're happy to pay that and want to future proof and play, other games would be worth it.
