Road Cycling

I'm hoping in the next house we get I'll be able to build a little workshop in the garage.

Just need these mortgage rates to fall.... then get her a ring... then i can get a new bike and all the fun expensive bits along with it :D Better pull my finger out. An engagement ring for £10 is acceptable in 2024 right?

If anything its too much. Cost of living and all that.

Anyway, it shouldn't be about the ring. Does she want to get married for a diamond or for her love of Mr Junglist?

She keeps telling me it doesn't need to be expensive and really fancy jewellery isn't either of our things. I really need to man up and ask her, really.

I mentioned it in the relationship thread but the thought of marriage doesn't scare me, it's the actual day that scares me!

They're only £14 for 2 delivered that weigh 13g each.
Be warned, I bought some like this from Aliexpress and they were too weak to hold a full bottle in place...

What a waste of 39p 45p!

Looks like it's a week to fit the ice spike tyres down south at least (Met Office warning from 1500 today), stay upright out there folks!

These are the ones I'm looking at. Actually cheaper than I remember but I think they may have changed as these are saying 18g each.

Worth a punt though because I'm really impressed by my saddle I got recently. A friend recently ordered the same as me

Personally I hate being the centre of attention so the actual wedding day is one of the big things that puts me off as well. I also don't really agree with marriage insofar as it meaning anything. Unfortunately it does afford you certain legal benefits (and downsides) and I imagine I will have to pull the trigger soon. We now have 2 boys, we've been together nearly 10 years and her dad, despite only being about 62 is not a healthy man so its probably a good time...

@AndyCr15 - Ordered them. Can't be that bad... can it?

Well, depends if you lose your water bottles as a result.

Yeah the thought of our family and friends focusing on both of us? Enough to make me throw up! Time is not on our sides, Fez but I think at 10 years the pressure is on you more than it's on me!

I need an excuse to buy a load more of those elite bottles (I've not found a bottle superior to the elite ones. that flow is perfect) so if I lose my SIS ones it's probably done me a favour :D

My Aliexpess adventures have made me save a grand total of 150g of weight off of my bike for the cost of £60. Probably could've just had a morning poo

Yeah, we hated that too. For our first dance, we pre-arranged something between the 2 of us, so that when the DJ played a certain song, we knew it was our first dance, but no-one else was aware so it flew under the radar.

I remember my wedding day 13 years ago. We got married at a local zoo so you do the wedding in the a nice done up barn have a tour of the zoo with your wedding party. The wife and I fed the giraffes for the photos and then back to the barn for a meal and speaches. I was absolutly fine until about 30 mins before go time, i had to go an see the registrar to confirm a few things and then i wasnt allowed to leave the room and was sat there on my own with the registrar when the best man and some of the guests was at the bar next door.

From that point i was really nervous until the point we signed the documents and then i was able to relax.

A lot of the wedding faff wasn't for us. We had an outdoor ceremony, came back inside for a meal and then moved everyone to the bar. Neither of us like dancing and I hate (HATE) wedding DJs and "party tunes" in general so sacked that off. No one's life was ever made better by hearing the Grease megamix. You should have a day that reflects you.

Plenty of hours but hoping to do more outdoor rides in 2024.
Always amazes me the amount you do, the regular imperials are impressive mate - really old school! Keep it up while you can! :)

I'm intrigued what that massive block of Blue was?! - EDIT can see PBP! Well done! One of my Zwift TTT team did it and couldn't get back Zwift racing for 2 weeks afterwards!

Are there any co s that make brightly coloured tyres that still perform well despite their gimmicky appearance ? :)
Continental do some with quite subtle stripes on them. But the main one you'll see are the Vittoria Rubino's which are a bit more in your face in various colours but been around a few years and not heard they decrease life/grip/etc.

In all seriousness. I would love to give it a go myself but I'd need to buy so many tools to get it done.
Can't say I bought anything specific for Di2 except one of the black plugging in things. Most of the rest I had before - as it's largely just allen keys same as mechanical?! ;)

My only requirement when we moved house was a garage! ;)

Even better when we tried to park the car in it and it barely fitted, but with lots of drive space so we knew then we wouldn't be using it for the car! :D

Same. I'm nearing 14 years. We've talked about it a bunch of times and I've asked her several times. She's not said no at any point (we joked about it going over 10 years she'd say no), but we've also never set a date to make it official... She's not a jewellery wearer, she doesn't want the wedding day - just wants the holiday after! Now with a 6 year old keep saying we should 'make it official'. I'm the semi-romantic/part-traditional one who wants an actual day/ceremony for the whole social norm/expectation, but same as @fez not really a fan of being centre of attention. But the costs are insane so can never justify it. We both have the same surname already (Jones - unrelated, we checked!), so the only reasons we have are the tax/family side of things.

It's been a couple of cold days here, although ambient is low I've not seen any ice/frost yet. Had a snowstorm on my ride home last night, but the ground must have been above freezing enough that it almost immediately melted. Not even a frost this morning. Do think it should have been as windchill was pretty brutal. -3 at least, possibly lower coming from the NNE so thankfully not directly in my face. The only exposed bit of my commute it was proper painful (2 face-buffs - need to dig my windproof one back out if this continues). Looking at the forecast here it continues another 10+ days, but mostly above freezing and dry. So at least the water is continuing to drain away!

Check Wiggle, as they used to do 'Prime' branded bottles which are Elite Fly bottles as I've got a few. No idea if they have inventory they're flogging off of their own branded stuff...

My main riding so far this year has been doing a Zwift stage race 'FRR' which a friend runs - https://www.flammerougeracing.com/

I've been at my limit but come up short the last 2 stages over the weekend. The Alpe was really too hard at 5 days in, with sunday being really close to not finishing it...
Stage 1 Tue: https://www.strava.com/activities/10479840530
Stage 2 Wed: https://www.strava.com/activities/10488377421
Stage 3 Thu: https://www.strava.com/activities/10494303705
Stage 4 Fri: https://www.strava.com/activities/10500894101
Stage 5 Sat: https://www.strava.com/activities/10507395592
Stage 6 Sun: https://www.strava.com/activities/10512933952

Rest day yesterday couldn't come soon enough... iTT tonight then final stage tomorrow. Looking forward to finishing it! Given me a massive block to start the year with, now focus on recovery and levelling thing out the next month or so, providing I can keep illnesses at bay with the freezing weather! :o
