Update! Going to an iPhone after 15 years of android

Probably so they can do all that filter *****.

It’s also worth noting if you get it from Apple you can get it on 0% so saves you getting a contract and you can get an esim. You’ll also be able to easily return it if you don’t get on with it.
You can do the filters after as well, there is literally no difference

How you getting on with the switch
Well.........I ballsed up massively.

Decided on an iphone 15 looked at various places to buy it online and was hoping I could get next day delivery, found it on ASDA mobile, next day delivery. Great I thought, I'm working from home tomorrow so all is good, get it ordered and I will be home all day for it to be delivered. Next day I wait impatiently like a kid on Christmas eve. Friendly parcelforce man delivered it about 14:00. Unwrap in my man cave, and as I start to open it up I notice the word 'Plus'. Have they sent me a iphone 15 plus by mistake, no it's a 14 plus. WTF is going on. Check my email and this idiot has somehow managed to order the wrong phone.

So yesterday, my friendly parcelforce man came back and collected it.

I only have myself to blame.

Managed to do something similar - was very frustrating as the non plus version went out of stock at the time (old release).

What's really p*ssing me off now is I paid for the phone and it was in my hand the next day 10th of October. I arranged a return, Parcelforce collected on the 12th and delivered it on the 13th. Ten days later and I still don't have my refund. Amazing how quickly companies can take your money, returning it not so!

Won't you miss the faster charging speeds? iphone15 only does 18W charging does it not?

edit - Pixel does 23 or something iirc so not that much different then :o

I wouldn't worry, all iPhones are the same anyway :p

Recently did this myself and opted for the 13 Pro Max after having the last 3 iterations of the Galaxy Fold I was bored of Samsung and ultimately bored of android.

I’m in a place now where I want things that work not so bothered about tinkering.

3 weeks in and I own an Apple Watch SE2 and AirPod Pro’s

Don’t miss anything, notifications people usually pull up as a big gripe but I’m happy for them to not show.

Loads of conveniences with iOS I didn’t get with android, car plonked on maps where I left it without my input and many others

The only thing I did bring with me so to speak is google photos, I knocked iCloud on the head for photos and google seems to be working just fine.

What other conveniences do you get with iOS over Android? Genuinely interested as I find totally the opposite.... I have to use iDevices for work so if there are areas I'm missing out on due to being so used to Android I'm all ears! :)

I switched to a iPhone13 pro max a few years ago. The two years I had it there were loads of little bits that I found irritating, things like on the keypad you can't start typing a name to bring up a contact you have to go into the contact list. The way apps only really worked when they were open and not in the background properly. So I wouldn't wait to switch back.
The two things I really liked were the battery life and the camera (although that's been surpassed now) and carplay was better than android Auto.

I wouldn’t get the non pro. The 60hz screen is terrible coming from anything android that runs 90+.

I’ve been on iOS since I ditched my pixel 6 and all its problems that it had on release. 2+ years later and there are still things that apple does well and things that it completely misses.

E.g.

Notifications: still terrible. You get used but it’s years behind android.

Keyboard: terrible, auto correct is rubbish. Google keyboard lags and crashes so don’t bet on it.

Basic file management: clunkiest thing ever. Download a video? Will it be in your gallery? No, not unless you save it as video from your “files” app. It’s just clunky and horrid.

Good things:

Many connectivity bits just work well: car play, Bluetooth etc everything always connects.

Cameras : decent all around, great video.

Signal/calls : always strong

Sharing things between iOS devices is well integrated.

Faceid : great.

I’d move to android but currently there’s no device that would make me go through the trouble. Not yet.

Just little things like I use RingGo a lot for parking and as soon as I walk away from the car it pins to my lock screen how long I have remaining, never happened on android.

Wallet and Siri suggestions as soon as I enter a building it pops the app/card up on a widget for that specific store.

Ahh nice that is pretty cool!

I did contract an iPhone 15 in the end. Overall I prefer my android pixel 6 as the iPhone has some annoyances:

I don’t like the way you launch apps by sliding to the right and then either spotting the app in a bunch of quick select lists that keep updating and shifting around, or then pressing the app list and scrolling or typing the app name. My old phone I would flick up to get the full screen (width and height) of screen app icons.

The notifications never seem quite right especially when I’m using my phone and I’m still not sure what direction I need to swipe to get rid of the notification. The volume for notifications seems to either be linked to media playback volume or I am turning up the notifications whilst listening to playback, or something. Notifications seem to be stored even when you swipe them away on the lock screen and they will sometimes reappear over the next day or two.

Selecting text and moving the cursor on screen when you’re typing and correcting a mistake is very difficult to do. The keyboard itself is great and I immediately got on well with it but the predictive text and editing text and adding new words is pretty difficult.

The battery doesn’t seem to last as long as my pixel 6 even at two years old. Maybe I am using my phone more but it doesn’t feel like it.

The camera forgets the default settings I want (16:9) but it has at least remembered I want Live mode off.

day to day it’s fine. I’ll probably go back to android when this contract is up

text selection - hold the space bar and drag your finger... that lets you move the cursor etc and it's very useful.

camera settings are dumb but if you go to settings(main phone settings) and then camera you can set it to be at xyz ratio etc in there permamentely rather than having to change it each it.

apple is clunky in many ways.. and one thing that genuinely frustrated me is that there's 0 tips. Like there's this presumption that you'll know every shortcut and how xyz works on apple with 0 guidance.

I am so sorry to hijack this thread/post ... I hope this isn't a stupid question as I am not technically minded, but will the iPhone work with android autos app because i have the AA wireless dongle in my car so i don't need a cable to connect to my phone in the car thanks

iPhone won't support android auto

no, you need a carplay supported unit or dongle(only works with units that support carplay wired)
