HI,

I recently bought a OcUK Gaming Germanium PC but when playing games the PSU is making an awful (irritating) sound. It is silent when browsing the web for instance!

PSU is Gigabyte UD1000GM PG5 1000W 80 PLUS Gold Modular ATX.

Hopefully I can successfully post a YouTube link and you will have to turn sound way up to hear it as the video from my phone has not picked it up very well.

It does sound like fans however it does not sound mechanical in reality.

I really would like an opinion if this is normal or should I return it! (or fixable)

Could be coil whine from the GPU? Could try capping FPS to say 60 in a game you’re playing to see if it changes anything?

I had googled coil whine, however, it does not sound like coil whine after listening to different videos posted of said sound.

Limiting FPS to 60 didn't change anything but at least rules that out.

and

why did you go for gigabyte? its gonna blow

I think the model the OP has is alright, THG's review says:
The Gigabyte UD850GM looks to have solved all the problems of its predecessor, but it stays behind in overall performance.

I'll do better than that,

This is the exact sound in the video attached to the link below someone else posted online. (Found it after a morning spent searching the web)
maybe it is my headphones, but I'm afraid I still can't hear anything.
