Had a quick search but couldn’t find much. Where do folks buy carpet from? I’m open to buying it online and getting a separate fitter if I can get good quality carpet for less.

Not looking for anything amazing, mid-range is fine.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. I’ve ordered some samples.
When I was renovating this house I must have had over 80 samples of flooring from different retails and manufacturers until I found the ones I wanted across carpet, vinyl and wood. The colours on screen often looked nothing like the colour in real life. It is nice seeing the colour, albeit in a small offcut, in your own space and different lighting.

I go to a local independent carpet shop. They seem to have much more time for the customer and have plenty of samples etc on hand

Have a search on the forum, a few years back there as a thread about carpet and how you can often buy from the manufacturers and get the same 'model' (for want of the actual word) from them as you would find in the big carpet shops as there is only a handful of manufacturers who sell to all the suppliers. Things may have changed somewhat but worth a look if you can find the thread.

Thanks all, super useful info here and in that thread. I’m going to speak to a few independents to get a feel for prices in my area.

Another vote for a local independent.
We have also used a local independent but there prices weren't amazing.

I bought the sample book home for the missus to choose the colour she wanted and as it had the brand and ranger on it I thought I would just quickly throw the details into google, and it was £12/m2 online vs £20 from the local carpet shop.
Carpet shop does do free fitting throughout January, and they don't charge for gripper strips and door bars so for us it wasn't worth the hassle of having it delivered, storing it whilst we waited for a fitter etc.

I buy it from onlinecarpets.co.uk and fit it myself. Bargain compared to getting someone in.
I ended up buying from them, great service and pricing. Local guy then fits it for me, a lot cheaper than going to the big shops and I’ve been really pleased with the results.

Cool. I'm really pleased with them having used them for 5 rooms in my house so far.

£200 for 16 square metres of Noble Saxony polypropylene carpet, gripper rods, and underlay adhesive, delivered, is an absolute bargain.
