My mum has a 6 year old machine, originally Win 7 bought and upgraded to win 10. Going to replace the lot (she doesnt need to upgrade parts - so this machine will last her a similar time). Anything I have missed or got wrong - planning on a Win 11 O/S and she already has a recent graphics card purchase (because the GPU failed on old MB).
No gaming and not fancy - budget is well within and I have just been used to AMD CPUs in recent times.
Thanks

Seems like a complete waste of money, either get a used mini PC from Dell/HP etc. or as above get a new Beelink or Minisforum machine. Anything with an AMD integrated APU would be a good idea.
Couldn't recommend this more. You can pick up a used mini HP machine super cheap for what they are.

Putting aside if there are more affordable options, to comment on your spec:

Wouldn't it be better to fit a 5600G and not use a graphics card at all? The idle power should be quite a bit lower, if nothing else and if you do have a graphics card, you'd have a backup.

Storage also seems kind of expensive/excessive for basic desktop use? I'd have thought a decent 1TB drive like the Kioxia Exceria Pro, or M480 Pro would be more than sufficient.

I'm not personally a fan of the G12, since it isn't built by Seasonic. I'd switch to the Phanteks AMP 650, which is a better quality PSU based on the same platform as the Seasonic Focus GX.

that's a lot of storage for a basic home pc. What's the use case? If just web browsing, what's wrong with the existing pc your mum has?

As a side point from above, the b550 boards have 2 m.2 slots for you nvme's, but only the primary is running pcie4, the 2nd is pcie3, the the 2tb 980 pro will be wasted as will only run pcie3 speed. If you're dead set on getting a pc like the one you put together, I'd get something like below. the nm790 is just as fast as the 980 pro, but you're doubling your size to 1tb as your primary...prob just stop there tbh, but included cheaper 2tb drive for the pcie3 slot in case you need the extra storage
or just get a 2tb drive as primary and be done

Thanks for advice and have had a look at those micro PCs and they can get as expensive. My Mum is not a typical 77 year old she helps to design website content, slideshows and also has digital sewing machines needing a few USB ports. She keeps far too much crap on her machine "just in case" hence the storage requirements

I think the change to a mini PC might be a bit much at the mo and anything that doesnt work will be my fault. Appreciate the advice on the CPU , storage and PSU. Will rejig the spec.

I'll echo the suggestion of a uSFF / NUC box. My mother loved her NUC; try asking yours - after having done your research, of course. Don't worry about the lack of USB ports: you can always add a hub, and using a hub will protect the motherboard ports anyway.

Take a look at the ETA Prime and ServeTheHome channels on YouTube.
