I mostly play bf2042 and I’ve had 3 graphics cards in the past 3 years -3080 - 4070 TI and 4080 - all three of these cards achieve playable FPS over 60. I play at 1440p. I’ve played other games too - dead space - Jedi outcast and survivor and done VR. All playable

Now reviews of the PC sector technology always telling us high good something is by how high the FPS is. However who needs 150 FPS, who needs to spend the money on minor upgrades gaining a few FPS?

Surely if you get 60 fps now and most future games feature DLSS or AMD equivalent then why get a 4090 when for playable rates a 4070 is fine ?

Agree with your sentiment.

Upscaling has changed the equation for both sides.

Spending £1500 is almost obscene to play games unless you can utilise the AI capabilities or vram for content creation work etc.
 
Because what you find playable might be less so for other people. I have a 200hz monitor, and while I don't need to make full use of that, maintaining over 100-120fps or so is a much better experience for me Vs 60 when I'm playing certain types of game on my monitor. I'm less sensitive to it when couch gaming on the TV, but I'm generally playing slower paced games when on there.

Which games do you require 120 fps for ?
 
I'll be honest, I have a 165hz monitor and can usually tell the difference between 60hz and 90hz and it's pretty noticeable even with VRR.
However once above 100hz I don't think I would be able to differentiate 110hz from 165hz.
I've not used any of those DLSS/FSR/frame gen malarky so can't really comment

Agree completely, which is why I bought a 4070S FE for 1440p.

But if you feel the same way, why on earth did you waste money on a 4070Ti and then a 4080, when what you already had was perfectly fine. :confused:
 
A lot depends on how optimal the overall setup is i.e. a low frame time variance 60FPS/Hz with VRR might need 100+FPS to get the same quality without VRR and with more varied frame times, etc. etc.

There can be a big difference between single player and multiplayer as well. Back in the day I wouldn't have been happy at all playing even single player games at 60FPS - but more recently I've got a 4K/60Hz display which has very low latency/fast pixel response and VRR and it is a perfectly acceptable experience playing single player on it, mostly, though for some faster paced FPS even single player it isn't ideal.

built a few computers for friends and used these cards for them whilst upgrading myself. Probably use the 4080 for someone elses machine in time.

It's the ******* £5 Windows keys which get me - especially when they insist on buying from a seller and/or provider bought from a seller who screams dodgy from a mile away and inevitably the key either doesn't work or gets deactivated days, weeks or months later.

EDIT: Especially the ones who are like I want this £1000 CPU but won't spent any money on the OS license heh.

Don't diss the £5 windows keys :cry:
Tbh I've used a fair few in my time and never had any issues (2 for my personal use, and about 7-8 for friends, the kids etc)
I always put the keys through a key checker first and I've never had one deactivated.
My current key has been in use since 2012 lol and seen me through windows 7-8-10-11 :cry:

Much like tamzzy, I've used a bunch of cheap Windows keys over the years and never once had a problem.

I'd put up with the watermark in the corner before I fork out £100 + for one.
