How do you guys gauge a 2nd hand cards reliability?

Whats your generic check list?
I tend to stay at no older than two years - ask for furmark results - obviously sellers feedback etc
Everytime i think about getting a 2nd hand card I just get my head turned by a 12 month warranty.

I've bought quite a few now. I assume 2nd hand means no warranty unless it's really new.

I'd really like a few photos showing a clean GPU but bought a GTX 1070 this week because the seller had many posts and responded quickly. I'm using a RTX 3070 from here in a 2nd PC and sold a system last week with a RTX 2070 S also from here.

Ebay. I do prefer an almost perfect feedback record and a good description with clean pictures.

Also bought from Aliexpress knowing it probably has been mined on (not an issue for me) but if the the seller states this is the case and the GPU has been re-pasted that's usually enough for me.

i got a 3080 here for £350 but the guy does not know the actual make of the card, its a two fan model so im not wanting to bid just yet. - data mind cards? I've actually seen they are good to use as long as the miners look after their stuff.
 
Would you guys buy a 4 year old founders edition 3080 for £300? checks out - passed stress test etc
I just read that 5 year mark is when cards can become dodgy. But i dont know how true that is.

I don’t stress too much.

Reputable sellers often will not sell a GPU in poor condition.

I’ve bought and sold so many off various forums to not really worry about it.

I’ll ask for pics and if it’s covered in finger prints and dust, I won’t buy it.

I’ll also buy well reviewed older models (Sapphire Nitro or Pulse, MSI, ASUS, PNY) over cheaper unknown Chinese brands.

I won’t buy XFX or Gigabyte products.
 
Quite a bit of luck involved, i was sold a bad one that had a odd fault that I mistakenly thought was my monitor or system playing up but it turned out to be the GPU and it went worse over time.

It was a total nightmare and I had to sell it as broken so i lost hundreds of pounds.

The price is good, i've never had a graphics card fail on me, will probably need a repaste if its not had one already had one at that age.

One thing i had problems with is the software or driver support in either windows 10 or the the nvidia drivers i can't remember which one with old cards like when i tried using my old 8800gtx, BFG GTX 275 or GTX 580 0r GTX 780ti again i can't remember which ones :cry: in one of my computer systems a few years ago
May of just been a case of windows 10 was too new and the problems i had may have been fixed by now

Yes that's always the danger , I'm not gaming anymore so it's just a display out for my monitor .

If I fancy a bit of Cyberpunk 2077 the 980ti will give 60fps at 1080p low presets which is quite an achievement for a 9 year old GPU.

Great card, power hog but like the 1080ti I felt it punched above its weight for a long time.
