Which of the 2 combinations above would get the best results at 1440p?

I'm trying to debate on what to upgrade next at the moment I'm running a 5800x with a 3070ti but was looking at upgrading to a 7900xtx and wasn't sure if the cpu could be an issue.

Presuming you have a specific budget hence the choice? I think you'd see better overall performance with the 5800x and 7900xtx due to the superior raster performance of the AMD card. Some games benefit from the 3d cache but probably as many again don't, hence me saying overall.

I've got some stuff to take to cex which means I'd be able to upgrade my 3070ti for about £250 put down by using their trade in voucher system I wanted to make sure just doing the GPU was the better choice.

The other choice would be to go for a standard 4080 but it would cost me £350 extra which I wasn't sure if at 1440p would be worth it versus saving 100 and getting an XTX that's the next thing to look at lol.

Thanks for the reply

Do CEX buy all PC components or just GPU’s?

assuming you're on a b550 platform at mo? edit...meant AM4 platform as older generation boards can still use 5*** cpu's

at 1440p, the 4070ti is only 6% faster that that the 4070super, so i wouldn't bother with the 4070ti

as to a 5800x or 5800x3d, depends on the games

what's current setup and what games do you play?

If you can stretch the 4080 super would be my choice with superior ray tracing and dlss if not the 7900xtx is still a good choice.

Unfortunately as I'm relying on CeX for trade ins their 4080 supers are £910+ which is probably a bit too much as it would mean putting 410 versus their XTX at 760.

Thanks for the suggestion though

Other specs are b450 tomahawk, 16gb ram, 5800x and 850w PSU.

The games I'm playing at the min are battlefield 2042, gray zone, manor lords, insurgency, squad and intend to plan to play major releases going forward on PC as I'm migrating over from mainly using console.

so you already have a 5800x in your system? what's the cost of change you're being offered to switch to 5800x3d?
Why look at only CeX for parts. They're 2nd hand...could have just bought a brand new 7900xtx recently with 3 years warranty for £799, or a 7900XT for £599
I'd just start looking at yt for the games you play to see if they are titles that thrive on the L3 cache the x3d cpu's provide
one thing I's look at is doubling your ram to 32gb...16gb will have an impact on your 1% lows

I have a voucher with them for £500 so its making the upgrade cheaper as I dont currently have the funds to buy one outright.

Ill check out some videos and see if they make a change for what games im likely to play, thanks for the advice.

For me to swap to a 5800x3d and 4070 super would require about £190 put down versus £250~ to just swap to a 7900 xtx and keep the 5800x I have now.

Will look at some ram for prices now

Thanks again for the reply!
