So was the lad doing the burglary who got shot and killed the other day, didn't stop lots of people posting about being pleased about the result. I'll go and check on your moral grandstanding about him still being a human being in that thread...whereas all dowie did was express an indifference to this person.

He is just as likely to have done it just to stir things up more. Putin is worse than Hitler was in some ways and the west is not doing nearly enough to counter him right now. Same errors being repeated as the leadup to ww1 and 2.

maybe so, but I'd expect he'd have his own justification (ie: feeling his position was being threatened) no matter how warped rather than just waking up one day and feeling like whacking one of your mates.
Was there anything going on with Fico that would have caused Putin any jitters? With his trying to block Ukrainian aid, sounds like he was helping old Vlad out.

Very small bullets going slowly do less damage. Very small bullets going much faster do a lot of damage. See the M16 rifle story for details.
Round nose bullets with full copper/alloy jackets don’t tend to expand nor fragment in pistol calibres and the also don’t cause large temporary cavities in soft tissues due to their lower velocities.
If none of the bullets hit something vital and there was medical attention on scene quickly, surviving 5 gunshot wounds is more common than you’d expect.
It could have been Fico was simply no longer useful to Putin. Slovakia was a potential route for Putin’s expansion of territory.
Hitler was a human being, if someone had shot him years before the world would have been a better place.

One would think that the Soviet invasion of the then Czechoslovakia in 1968 to suppress their reform movement might lead Slovaks not to trust a Russian leader who fondly remembers the Soviet Union.

Not if you want to make them a martyr (although I still think it is a bit of a stretch to think Putin was involved). This sort of political violence often backfires and the victim's politics become stronger.

The world has gone mad since Covid. What I would say though is Putin is getting rather nervous and people are distancing from him.
