Hi all
I am not a gamer etc but had a RX580 card so decided to use that as it supported HDR as opposed the onboard.
Howerver in my new machine it crackles on certain videos (mainly some on youtube)
I read someone had similar and solved it by sdoing thsi, quote " Soon as I set the State1 as the minimum, even with the same clock speed and voltage as State0, the issue stops and the audio returns to normal"
Can anyone please tell me how to do that?
Cheers RIch

What do you mean by crackle? Is it coming from the GPU itself?

I'm not sure what you mean with setting the states but there are a few things you could try.

If the card has a 0 fan setting it could be starting and stopping the fan when you play videos. It's worth seeing if that is the cause of noise.

Under load some cards do make a noise called coil wine. It's usually more a of a high pictured buzzing. If your card has two or more power connectors you could see if it's possible to plug it into two separate connections on the power supply, rather than both being on the same wire.

Thank you for the reply. I will check out the fan etc

State1 ? State1 of what? It sounds like they're referring to the power states of the graphics card, but I'm not 100% sure?

If you download MSI Afterburner, a free program. You may be able to under volt the graphics card. Just check on the web acceptable voltages for that GPU.

Plus what PSU are you using? Is it a good GPU or OEM? OEM would a be a cheap generic power supply supplied with a PC.

Sorry it is a gold modular psu, cant remember the full details

It sounds like you came across an undervolting discussion, it was a very common practice with the RX580 to reduce temps and noise due to fan speed and/or coil whine.

You can do this either directly through the AMD control panel or via a third party application such as MSI Afterburner, there should be guides out there that can help.

Have to be honest in 20+ years of building pc's never heard of a crackling card?

I assume you might be describing coil whine. Is it possible to take a recording?

is it possible the fan on the card is touching a wire inside the case?

is there any kind of electronic burning smell?

There was a thread on here awhile ago, I think it was with a 5600G and from what I can recall, the crackling only occurred with the onboard sound while using a dGPU and if PCI-E 3.0 was used.
