looks like my home solar has developed a fault.

woke up this morning to find my solar and battery system shut down due to "grid over voltage".

it's been working fine for 3 years. I flipped the breakers on and off to see if it reset . no dice and further more heard arcing in the consumer unit for the system... so I figure for now the safest thing is to keep it off.

I have contacted the installer who is closed on the weekend. I hope they call back Monday as not liking this paying for electricity malarkey!

I don't suppose anyone has any suggestions ?

Have a look on the web site you use to monitor the system. What does the grid voltage history show? Arcing in the CU sounds like a possible loose connection? Hope it hasn't blown anything on the inverter/battery! I wouldn't go messing with the CU unless you are a qualified electrician etc.

Our solar system in my last house started tripping its breaker on very sunny days when it was maybe 5-7 years old. I replaced the breaker and it was fine for another 5 until we moved out. This being the breaker that linked it back into the main CU.

loose neutral wire coming out of the main breaker. lots of burned plastic and i could pull the wire out of the switch without any force at all.
new switch fitted and after some faffing about all good again.

oof, id still be tempted to get installers out and possibly an electrician just to make sure everythings ok, I like to be overly paranoid about those things lol.

dont worry... it was an electrican who fixed it, they replaced the switch and the wiring going to it... that said, if the same thing happens again out of warranty, i probably would have a go myself.

just for fun.
this was the fault
