My X299 10980XE is starting to show its age and a looking at some suggestions to get better performance in Lightwave, Photoshop, After Effects and some games, mainly Cyberpunk 2077 at the moment.

I will be using most of the components I currently have and have a custom 2x360 rad water-cooled setup in a Fractal Design Define 7 XL, I have lots of drives and an LSI Megaraid, hence the case.

Looking to upgrade, processor, motherboard, RAM 64GB, new 1TB NVME and a water block to fit the new processor, motherboard must have 3 NVME slots.

I will be using my current graphics card, which is a 3090FE, which should cut down on costs.

Looking for best performance for a £600-£800 budget, thanks.

Intel 14700k is strong for your needs, I've put together a build for xcluding waterblock.

AMD will be releasing there next gen CPUs so mite be worth the wait to check compare.

There are cheaper options to reduce budget I'd desired.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £809.92 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Thank you for the replies guys, still need to budget in a respectable water block. Any suggestions on that one? Am a little out of the loop, so to speak, these days.

I'd wait until the end of this month for the 9xxx AMD parts to be launched, two reasons is to see the real IPC uplift for application like Photoshop/After Effects, and secondly the knock on effect on the 7xxx pricing. I certainly wouldn't be buying an Intel 'K' based platform that is currently out there given the tiny lead they have over a Ryzen 7xxx part, and the full platform is EOL.

It wouldn't be so important if your budget wasn't so low, but given you need to get motherboard, DDR5, CPU and water block, you'll end up with a suboptimal system,m which is fine if you go AMD as you have drop in upgrade options on the AM5 socket but with Intel you are already at peak due to the EOL nature of it.

Goes to show how out of touch I am, thought it was quite a chunk of change for those components.
It isn't a bad budget for only the main components and a 1TB drive, but since you already have a high-end HEDT PC, going like-for-like adds a hefty cost to that.

To give you a more specific example, your CPU's multithreaded score on PassMark is ahead of an i5-13500 and about 5% behind a Ryzen 7 7700, so a decent overall performance uplift means you're having to look at high-end CPUs and need 64GB of memory to make the upgrade there and potentially add a water block too.

Ran a few benchmarks including Cyberpunks built in one, was happy with 80-86fps at 1440p and have decided to wait a while. I then got a bout of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) and blew what I had saved up on a really nice fishing rod, reel and other bits and pieces. By the time I have enough saved again, the new CPU's should be well established, and I might actually need an upgrade rather than just liking the idea.
