Hey,

Looking to build my first mATX PC and I picked up the 12400F CPU in the recent sale, so I'm now looking for a decent motherboard to pair with it, does anyone have any experience or suggestions please, I believe it can either be a B660m or a B760m board, not too fussed on DDR4 or DDR5 but for cost reasons and all things being equal I'm leaning towards the DDR4.

Thanks in advance :)

You can get Asus B660M-K (DDR4) for £85, or B760M-K (DDR5) for £105. Basic boards, but they'll do the job fine. Best avoided if you plan on upgrading to something beefy in the future.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info, I was struggling to decide on a board, mainly due to budget restrictions, but at the last moment I found a brand new ASROCK Z690M PG Riptide/D5 for less than the B series boards I had been looking at, so bought that, it's coming from the US but it'll be here very soon.

Board is a lot stronger with the VRMs etc so should give me a decent upgrade path if I need it?

The lower-end prime boards are notorious for running hotter than Texas tarmac, so it can't be any worse :D

You've also given yourself more access to overclocking and undervolting features, which might come in handy if you buy a beast later.

That is a solid combo, after hitting issues with my setup that's not a bad option especially considering the issues with the 13th/14th gen.
The system flies, I'm really happy with it, better than I had expected. Also glad I bought the 12400f on offer before I found out about the latest Intel fiasco!

I'll be mini-ITX due to the parts I have lying around but a decent AM5 with 2xm.2 has a fairly high entry point.

I would have loved a mini-ITX system but it was just too much this time for my budget, thankfully though I managed to grab some excellent deals on the parts which enabled me to get a better spec than I initially thought I'd end up with.
