Unbranded Rooflight or pay a premium for a Velux one?

Hello!

We're doing a big wrap-around extension project, and our builder (whom I've worked with on various projects for 8 years) is strongly recommending Velux rooflights for the side part of the extension. I can find generic flat rooflights online for about 40% of the price of the equivalent sized Velux windows. Since we need 4 of them that's a lot of dough! However, I definitely believe in the buy cheap, pay twice concept.

What would you recommend?

Thanks!

Are we talking large glass flat roof windows or the generic velux style ones in a pitched roof?

Yes I'd go velux. Especially if its flat roof up stands and your builder is used to them.

Mine are some no name **** and don't have the right fall to self clean, have leaked, have blown, overall pain in the ass.

The builder will blame you if anything goes wrong with some no name brand when they've said go velux. There is a reason they're the brand leader.

I'm looking for a slim one to fit between roof beams (~40cm) nothing fancy but just to let some light into a stair well, any ideas on the sort of cost I'm looking at? Slate roof if that makes any difference.
