Looking to upgrade my existing pc,but not sure which board & ram to go for.
Looking at B650 or E & 6000mhz ddr5 to pair with 7800x3d

My current system is
AMD B450 tomahawk max
Ryzen 3600
Crucial ballistix 3600 cl16 2x 8GB
Nvidia 30800FE
2 x 1TB Nvme & 2 SSD drives
Corsair RM 850 psu

Was going to keep this & drop in a 5700x3d & 32gb ram. But doing that will probably be about £300 to stay on AM4. Not restricted on budget for upgrading
I only use my pc for gaming @ 1440p 120hz
Any suggestions would be welcome

Rob

£260 for 5700x3d and 32gb 3200mhz memory then selling your old CPU and memory make it about £180 upgrade, then wait for the 9800x3d.

Otherwise you talking around a £600 to go AM5.

Am5 build with 2 sets of memory c36 and C30 to compare costs.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £699.96 (includes delivery: £0.00)

I'll be honest i recently went from a 5700X based system to a 7800X3D based system.

Gaming wise i didnt notice much of a difference at 4k.

Youll probably notice a bigger increase tho going from a 3600 - i certainly did when i went from a 3600 to the 5700X. I also had a RTX 3080 back then. Had a 4080 when i went from AM4 to AM5

The main question… how much do you want to scratch that upgrade itch?

Even if you upgrade your current platform, that shiny new AM5 platform will always be in the back of your mind.

So ask yourself ask again, can you accept living/using with your current platform again?

For me, I didn’t care, I wanted the newer tech and moved from AM4 to AM5.

What games do you play?

The 5700X3D is frequently in the £200-220 price range and would be an easy change for potentially huge uplift, 1440P is still quite CPU limited compared to the aforementioned 4K and even at 4K some games absolutely love the cache. You're better off waiting until the 9800X3D drops if you want to shift to AM5, which could be a few months yet last I checked.

MMO's, sims, CoD Warzone etc.

I actually switched out a 3700X to a 5800X3D while on a 4070, the 3080 is around the same performance level I saw massive improvements in certain games, such as Dying Light 2, Cyberpunk, pretty much anything Unreal 5 too, especially with minimum frames.

Play lots of stuff, mostly single player, cyberpunk, hogwarts ,star field etc. I might just go for the 7800x3d at this point, round about £600 forAM5 & £300 to stay on AM4. I'll get a few years out of the upgrade I hope

Cheers,

Rob

6000 ram is meant to be 1:1 infinity fabric with the 7800x3d
that's why I got 6000mhz ram, I just can't get it to run at 6000 mhz,
go figure
