I bought a PS4 Pro when it released because it's price felt fair, the performance gain seemed beneficial and the games that I played most seemed to get nice benefits (either high res or more stable performance pushing 60fps). At that time I also played a lot of PUBG Console and that game ran at a wobbly 30-40fps on base PS4 but with the PS4 Pro it much more comfortably sat closer to 60.

I really can't believe they've launched the PS5 Pro at 700 quid and even though I could probably just about justify it I'm not sure it's even worth it.

I wish we'd seen more of PSSR, if it's as good/close to as good as DLSS then it'll be interesting because anything is better than FSR2 on consoles right now.

But I would still advise holding off at least another 6 months to assess what games are coming out that will take advantage of it ( my suspicion is very few ; most developers want to reach the largest audience and that means catering for PS4 / base PS5 users ). I honestly don't see the rush to get a Pro until at least GTA6 is about to launch, or unless you have a backlog of Playstation games that will take advantage of the new hardware.

I mean.. I can get it for the cost less vat. So it doesn’t hit my wallet anywhere nearly as badly as you guys in the uk.

Id be shocked if gta6 in performance mode runs less than 60 on this thing. That’s what I assuming will happen anyway. I’m not really that interested in gta anyway.. got a bit of a backlog though !

It's a sad state of affairs. The only reason scalpers exists, overpriced products, and unfinished games exist is because people are willing to throw money at it.

Possibly, although I assume the fabs have capacity to output whatever they need given it'll be an old die. They'll also still be producing the non-pro.

This is what could make the price absolutely worth it IMO. Let's see how it works out. Make or break.

Nvidia frame gen was the tipping point for me to get a 4000 series RX.

No, I wouldn't.
Because it's a Premium product and ultimately it is my decision if I want or need to buy it.
When the Pro is released, none of the 56 million PS5's currently in circulation stop working. None of them stop getting games. None of the future PlaySation owners would be forced to buy one - as the standard, the model that most people buy is still available.

Most people don't buy Galaxy Ultra, Pixel Pro or iPhone MAX devices. These are premium products. They are designed and sold to only attract those people that see value in that premium line.
 
I think of the most interesting things revealed during the whole presentation was that 75% of all PS5 owners default to 'performance' mode over 'fidelity' - essentially really highlighting how much the majority do actually prefer the smoothness of 60+ fps over pretty visuals at a lower frame rate.

I'd love it if PSSR helped get 60fps at 4k a more standardised output - but equally if we could get more 90-120fps games at 1440p or around there that would be brilliant too. It's one of the reasons I still play games on my PC (outside of fps games using m&kb) is because I can play Horizon FW at 120+ fps and it feels incredibly fluid.
 
I mean who at Sony thought this was a good idea (the presentation) there's been hardly any context, no performance numbers shared.. they didn't even mention about the upgraded storage ffs. Really missed the mark here it has to be said!

I haven’t built a PC for over 10 years and I’ve lost touch with technology but generally the idea was to avoid bottlenecks in performance be it RAM, CPU or GPU.

After sleeping on it overnight i am still miffed at the price and will probably not buy. However, that said i have had my PS5 since release and it is my main form of entertainment in the house. I do often just play games on the performance settings but there is a decent difference in image fidelity from that to the quality settings however playing on my 120hz OLED the frame rate drop(To 30FPS Even some of the newer modes that do 40FPS like on HFW)) is VERY VERY noticeable.. I much prefer the 60+ FPS smoothness and running 1440p still looks fantastic to me(120FPS On Fortnite) So i really dont know. Will i notice the difference?... Well possibly, i sit pretty close to my 65" TV and getting games to run at 4K 60FPS is pretty impressive especially on some of the more graphically intensive games. We will see... If they decide to drop the price after all the feedback (And there is a huge amount) i might go for it, if not i will save the money and wait till they have one of the price drops for a couple of weeks.

Nah, my FOMO is at an all-time low, and I absolutely love my tech. Even if my Day 1 PS5 broke, I don't think I could justify it. Maybe if some exclusives came out that were miles better on the Pro, but we all know that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

My resilience is entirely based on if The Finals announces a 120fps PS5 Pro patch, if that happens I'll need to delete all of my posts in this thread where I'm critical of the PS5 Pro and it's price...

Yeah you say that now but the closer it gets to release the more chance you will change your mind :p
