Some people are comparing this to the PS3 launch’s pricing.

If they have a killer game to kick this off I think it’s fine but it seems all the games they were showing off have been out already. I don’t think I want to play Last of Us again…

The only thing is GTA 6 and I’ll just play it at 30fps.
It's not really comparable to the PS3 release, as it's not a new console generation. It's the enthusiast model.

Though I agree a big game to show of the capabilities would be a big selling point.

Wait for Digital Foundry reviews as this is how they will sell £700 is great value.... Honestly after calming down I realised my first reaction is right and it is basically Sony really giving the middle finger to its customers that want to upgrade or even get into the Sony Ecosystem. Sorry this is worse than what they tried to pull back in the PS3 release days and the ridiculed price back then and they had to make many PS3 models at reduced prices to get even anyone to buy one, the PS3 only became a success in the end of its life, during its release it failed badly and Microsoft didn't help Sony too with a better and easier device to develop on.. PS3 was a horrible device for developers and had hardware that was really hard to get the performance out of, not because it was underpowered but incredibly difficult to program on to access all the power it had.

This feels like PS3 all over again...

PS1,PS2,PS4 amazing generations from the start... PS3 right at the end saved itself with the Sony exclusive games that later got remastered or updated anyways to PS4.. PS5... PS3/PS4 games updated again for the PS5 and hardly any new exclusives.

The only reason I want the PS5 PRO is to have the ability to play ps4/ps5 titles at better quality and performance than the previous devices.. BUT not at £800 to get a PS5 PRO with optical drive.. I paid £350 for a PS4 PRO with TLOU2 which was a brand new game that was released at that time.

Now they want to charge double with a device with no optical drive... sorry no... £550 was a sensible price for this with an optical drive... Anything more would need justifying with another controller or some AAA new game or something else.. Feel sorry for Mark Cerny as at the end of the day it is Sony that stuck the stupid price on this and I really hope this doesn't put him off the console market and helping Sony develop the hardware.. Without him these devices would have had worse specs for sure. Anyways...
You seem to be forgetting in your wall of text that this not a new generation, but an enthusiast model. It's not intended to sell anything like the base model; the PS4 Pro only ever reached a market share of 15%.

I've just seen him posting in a lenovo legion thread and talking of ordering a £500+ quid handheld so figured he would be familiar with the concept of a less mainstream offering.

Seems strange to be so angry about it.

Especially when he's running his enthusiast 3090's in SLI, which if he bought new would have a had a decent mark up because it's the 'best'.... Ironic.

Honestly think people just complain about the price for the sake of it, the original PS5 is still around £400 for the digital version, the pro has higher specs and double the storage, they know their target audience they aren't expecting it to sell a lot, for the people who think the price is justified then they will pick one up. It's amusing as most people on this board buy expensive and high end stuff all the time so why are people complaining.

To be fair. I'm not seeing the enthusiasm value add for that extra £300 (minus optical drive) over the OG PS5. Irrespective of inflation or semiconductor / component scarcity; this looks poor value for money. If you've never owned a PS5, this might be worth the punt. For existing PS5 owners, I'm somewhat sceptical where this leaves developer effort with pushing the base model to it's limits versus the up-sell marketing ploy to push for the Pro.

Double the storage? Great that's at most £50 retail price increase.
no one is arguing that the higher spec graphics card isn't nice to have, it's just a lot of meh for the price.

It's just surprising how much of an increase in price there is, when little else has changed, and production cost comes down over the life of the console.

Add in the new AI upscaling and there will be even less incentive for developers to optimise and push the limits of the console.

What interest would third-party developers have in selling the Pro model for Sony. They will cater to the install base. Reviews of the games will always be primarily based on the performance on the base console.

What if, this is the plan all along. Lots of negative comments. They drop the price down £100 or include a bluray drive bundle. Preorder isn't until later this month. One can only hope.

Thing bugging me is the whole FOMO. If it improves performance on games normally without a 'Pro' patch, similar to PS4 boost mode, I want to play the new Silent Hill with such options. Even though I have a fully capable PC .

I “was” going to get a PS5 Pro for GTA6 and keep my 4090, but at that price it ain’t happening.
I’ll just get a used PS5 and put the rest towards a 5090.
What's concerning me is that with no upgrade to the CPU will it even be able to play GTA 6 at 60FPS? I will be amazed if the standard PS5 plays it above 30..

You underestimate the general public. I'd be surprised if it didn't sell out for months.

Crazy that this refresh is still quite a bit worse than my 4 year old PC. I get the convenience factor and having early access to Sony games (thankfully a lot of them are coming to PC).

Whatever your view, corporations own the wallet of most and people fail to admit it, and gamers are certainly no different. Need any more evidence than this thread alone? RTX **90s, PS4s, OLEDs, all over priced and yet justified by the individual. Moan all you like, you can play other (and often better) games for less than £100. Yet PS4 is still way over a £100, good joke.

Imo PS4 gen was awful and this PS5 Pro is leagues better. UI on XB1 was slowest UI ever. Primarily due to the SSD and backwards compatibility that this gen is better imo, we should have had it in 2014. Sure the games aren't great anymore, and i don't care for GTA, but quality of life is better than last gen relative to current gens only. All digital is complete ****** and is pushing me away, but last gen was pushing the same "convenience", so it's a fair comparison and conclusion. With this in mind i'd argue the PS3 was superior to PS4/5/pro.

Well, the likely scenario is these are hoovered up by scalpers and sold for triple the price! Which of course, people will pay :).

unless they can blow me away with an epic game that has been in secret development.
I agree with the sentiment, but no "secrets" can happen as Sony is beholden to investors & shareholders. We know precisely what is coming down the pipeline for the next few years. Any surprises would have to be from 3rd party developers.
