New PC Build

It’s been a while but decided to jump back into PC gaming-I will play on a 4K TV or 4K monitor. Games I am looking at include FPS shooters, RTS such as age of empires 4 & Company of heroes 3, plus racing simulators (I will buy a wheel further down the line).

Looking to spend no more than £2k on the PC alone. I have peripherals and a monitor already which I will update later. Could someone spec me as a starting point. Would prefer an Nvidia card. No need to include windows.

I would be really tempted to wait for the 5000 series cards if spending this much.

I don't know specifically about the case ram and PSU here so these were suggestions for price reference. Id never spend that much on a case personally !
But fundamentally I would want at least that gpu and CPU at this price point.
(I forgot SSD. Insert PCI express 4 here)

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,924.90 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Late 2024 early 2025 from what I just read. Probably more info in the graphics card section if you venture in there.

I missed CPU cooler but can vouch for the one mickyflinn has shown. I have had a few arctic ones over the years and they are good.

Can I ask when it’s better to use a liquid cooler?
With Ryzen CPUs it is mainly just for looks. With Intel CPUs, usually whenever the power limit goes much beyond 150 watts, e.g. if you're using a 14900K or14900KS, it would struggle on a peerless assassin/phantom spirit (one of the most popular affordable air coolers).

Any other thoughts about changes to this build before I order the components?
To further improve the build I would make these 2 changes, a better motherboard gives you pcie5 and the memory has tighter timmings. Won't make a massive difference in performance but gives you better options.

Oh, and a sprinkle of RGB :D

Thanks for this. Can anyone recommend a decent looking case - I want to move the case to use on the front room LG Oled TV from time to time and it will be on show.

I note the GPU recommended in research I have done could be better. Any other recommendations for a 4080 Super - say ASUS or would I not get any benefit?

Would you like a smaller option or don't mind a different case ?

Why not also look and pick out a case you like and we can check it's all comparable.

As for GPU there are small variations between models but the reason I went for Zotac is the 5 year warranty if registered within 28 days.

If honest with cases I don’t know where to begin - any other recommendations?

Can you recommend an MSI or Asus graphics card - I tend to go with names?

The PSU and cooler are pre-order. How often do they get stock? Any replacement recommendations?
Which case do you like ?

To find out stock would be a question for Overclockers, as for alternatives you could drop down to an 850w PSU otherwise there's a sharp increase in price for a 1000w PSU at Overclockers.
