Our old 55" 4k TV is finally giving up the ghost after 5 years. We don't want to spend £1000+ so ideally around £5/600 but would push to £800ish if it was really worth it

From various articles it seems TCL and hisense is a good brand at this price range but they have at least three models we could choose

Hisense U7N 65" mini LED - £ 899 currys
TCL 65C655K 65" QLED - £ 580
TCL PF650K LED - £ 420

How on earth do we choose !

It's in a fairly bright lounge and we mainly watch netflix, prime and sports

Thansk

I've only read good things about the U7N, if I were buying now that would be my choice of the non OLED options. I have an S95B and love it, but it only really shines in a darker environment, and I'm thinking that whenever it needs replacing I'll be looking at mini-LED options (I don't expect tech will have changed enough by then for newer revisions of the panel types to have become cheaper by then).

Not sure what it’s like but I’m looking at the TCL 65C841K 65" Mini-LED 4K QLED Smart TV 144hz VRR, which can be had for around £700 sometimes a bit less. Seems to have a very decent spec list and looks be similar to the C845k which gets good reviews.

I'd be looking at finding a decent 2023/24 LG model that has been discounted if I were you. At work recently, we had a budget of £400 for 2 40"ish TV's. We got a 2024 Hisense with Freely and a 2023 LG UG. The LG performs the Hisense in almost every single way.

Thanks . Why does everyone seem to knock LG and push TCL and Hisense..same for Samsung too ?

I was also wondering whether the 65 is too big.. what are the 58" like ?

Black Friday starts this week at Amazon so maybe able to pick up a deal

I'm no TV expert or enthusiast, but IMO LG/Sony/Samsung make the best TV's available. People probably knock them because they are more expensive than Hisense and TCL for the latest model but I would rather have an older premium make than a newer TCL/Hisense job.

How far do you sit from the screen and what kind of content (movie buff, gaming etc.)?

I measured it and when we are sat on the sofa we are 2.2m away from the screen

The U7 is a good screen if you can't push to an OLED, Mini-LED with FALD, solid review over on RT'ings too.

If you don't care about the higher refresh rate of the U7 the U6KQUK is worth a look, I got one from Richer Sounds as a warranty replacement for a different model not so long back and it's surprisingly decent. I would say that the viewing angles aren't the best however, and both screens seem to be at their best in dark rooms rather than bright. That said, if I was spending in the £800 range I'd pony up another £100-200 and go for an OLED like the Panasonic TX-65MZ800B.

At that distance, a 55" would be fine, how about the LG B4?

LG are more than good enough, but that model has low contrast, 'terrible' edge-lit local dimming, poor HDR and 'mediocre' sound... Your eyes and ears would adjust over time, but you get what you pay for.

How about:
