Booted PC and noticed the m.2 drive on which my OS is installed, which is in M_2 slot only gets recognised on 1st cold boot,
Once Im in windows it fails and upon entering bios its not recognised.
A quick google suggests VMD settings need to be disabled but they already are.
I wonder wth is going on?
I could switch m.2 slots and see if its the same result.
However googling suggests these drives despite being pitched as high end exhibit this behaviour.
Very annoying to re-install OS
Any idea welcome, thanks!
mobo is a z690i unify

Looking in the manual, M_1 is run off the CPU. M_2 and M_3 are from the chipset.

I would say a OS drive needs to be in M_1.

So swap it over and go into bios to make sure it is going to boot from that drive.

It shouldn't make any difference which slot it's in... I think I read somewhere that gen 5 drives might theoretically run faster in the primary slot.. Depending on the board but it should still work fine.. Can't hurt to move it or re-seat it though to rule that out ?

Sorry for late update.
Updated bios resulting in no change.
The drive is officially supported according to the vendor storage list.
Managed a cold boot where it was recognised and I did a bios utility wipe and installed windows on the other drive.
I did notice when there was no os installed and rebooted, drive was always present in bios.
It was also recognised after windows fresh install upon installing chipset drivers.
However since rebooting several times drive no longer shows up.
I tried looking up firmware update when drive was recognised but no update exists
I did install hynix easy driver tool which reported back drive health as good.
I've already bought a replacement 2tb Samsung 970 Evo plus and am cutting my losses.
Stay clear of these drives as they simply are not worth the premium price.

It is a shame you have had problems with this drive as it does review very well.

The drive has a 5 year warranty so you could always RMA it.

Think most, if not all brands have had their problems.

Il keep the drive and have an external enclosure I can use. Chances are it'll get detected outside an OS.
My findings suggests it's def OS related as well
Something in windows upon rebooting is causing drive to deactivate

I managed to swap out the drive and the replacement Samsung 970 evo is working fine as is the Hynix P41 albeit in an enclosure.
I`ve rebooted a few times and drive always gets detected in the enclosure so my theory around Windows or my motherboard showing incompatibility is prob right.
All in all I`m happy with the solution and at least it makes everyone aware should they encounter this issue.
