Hi

Does anyone have any guides to using moonlight with steam as i am struggling to get a picture with this -
with desktop mode i get m 2k144hz quite easily adn can play forza from my server pc through my laptop but steam games dont seem to play so well.

How are you launching the games through moonlight?

I use Sunshine/Moonlight but just launch the desktop, so anything should work as long as there is a picture?

hi.
my issue is trying to get steam through moonlight to give me a better fps.
i know my pc can do it and its all hardwired so no issue re: bandwith.
just dont know the setting.

Not had any problems with steam, but like the hub I launch desktop mode in moonlight and then just start the steam games up as normal. What's the actual issue - that steam games are performing poorly in moonlight/sunshine desktop mode?

hi
so, the issue is this:
my server machine has a 1440p/60 screen attached to it.
i have a 1440p/144hz screen upstairs in my office, where i want to play my steam games. i can play them fine, no missed frames, and the computer can definitely do it in the games i want to play (eg forza) - i can see the fps being 200+ but the moonlight overlay for steam says ' 60.00hz' .

If i try to run a game off the desktop that belongs to steam or otherwise, it seems to run but on a seperate monitor (ie i can hear the sounds but cant see anything)

Turn your monitor off and either use an EDID emulator or use virtual.display adaptor

I did use EDID emulator however now I just use the virtual display adaptor as it seems reliable and does any res or refresh rate I want.

So I did that.
I installed a new 'monitor' with the resolution and refresh rate I want.
If i set this screen to mirror the desktop then I only seem to get the desktop (60hz) refresh.

If I set the screen to be a different screen to desktop main screen then the game loads on the other screen and with a TV I cant just drag it across

It should just function as a unique screen, I set it to just show on the virtual display, fire up whatever device I am going to use, if I plug it into TV I nsure that moonlight and then the server running sunshine has the same display settings.

I have used that driver before for adding a virtual monitor to a VM that could then stream games. Worked pretty good but you may have to set it to primary screen then reconnect or perhaps even disable the physical monitor. If it causes problems as you need to use the server from physical monitor then I would make sure RDP is enabled so you can remote on and re-enable when necessary.

Streaming direct from the machine just worked but it has high hz screen physically connected.

I run my desktop with no display now and remember problems could arrise running with a monitor connected if it was turned on, turning it off at the switch on the monitor sufficed to avoid any issues
