Edit: But wasn't it his EVGA cards that triggered nV to get stricter with limiting AIB innovation? Think it was on a GN vid about the time he left EVGA.

The MSI Ventus 5080 is what I'll be going for. Pretty much the same dimensions as my 4070ti so I know it'll fit upright in my Lian Li case. Straight swap. The 4070ti also went sale at around the FE price, wasn't much more at all so hoping for something similar. Probably unlikely to be honest but as long as it's not stupidly more than the FE, otherwise I might have second thoughts.

Last I saw anything about him was in this vid 6 months ago, talks a lot about doing stuff with PNY around the 2min mark

He did hint at a 5090 model but maybe it fell through

Looking at the specs for the base MSI 5080 model they are almost exactly the same as my MSI 4070ti. Which is fine by me. Not gargantuan like the 4080/90.

That’s literally a reason for me not to want the FE right there. That looks ridiculous.

Ideal for SFF cases where the GPU is vertically mounted most of the time but yeah, looks a bit odd in more traditional cases.

I was going to go FE and a custom block also but it seems this.......MIGHT....... not happen. Or certainly not as quick as partner reference board blocks come out. The FE design appears strange and may include separate daughter boards for power delivery and/or outputs. This would make FE blocks much more complex. For starters the pictured 5090 has a vertically orientated power input.

Alphacool already have designs for a few partner reference cards and have made a statement on the FE to the effect of "We shall see".

I would personally prefer to get a manufacturer blocked card, like the Gigabyte Xtreme Waterforce WB, but my experience on previous generations is stock of these cards is always non-existent in the UK.

Linus and PC World are singing the praises of the angled connector on the fe.

This is like staring at a abstract piece of art... I can't decide if I like that element or not.

From a design standpoint it's good, as people with smaller cases won't mangle their connector putting the side of their case back on. But I think it looks odd.

I'd only want the Suprim based on how ***** the other 4090s I tried were in terms of fan noise from other vendors (Gigabyte, Asus, Phantom something). It won't fit in my O11D Evo though on the mounting bracket lol.

Is the Dragon actually LED? If so all is forgiven. Will match my motherboard perfectly.

I think it looks a bit plain this time round, especially the back. I think the Vanguard is where they have gone for a more premium design.

All MSI cards apart from the Ventus have the excellent Torx fans though.

I don't care how it looks, I just want it to be as quiet as the Suprim X is, and I'm not fannying about with watercooling for something I'll only keep for a couple of years (and still needs fans anyway). Mind you, I guess my 4090 will be at least 4yrs old when I replace it.

Any Asus or MSI is the best bet then. Of course coil whine is completely unpredictable, but I wont go there!
