*** The official Apple Watch {all gens} (and Watch Ultra [all gens]) thread ***

Santa brought me an Apple Watch SE which was very kind. Enjoying it so far, but some frustrations which might just need options tweaking.

I like that it’s friends with my phone and does all the fitness and sleep tracking, but I want it to work better as a watch. I like the styling and I’ve found a face that I like.

Main things:

I’m finding that the notifications are a pain - I’m struggling to find a balance between ridiculously intrusive and completely off. I’m favouring the latter if I’m honest. I might switch messages back on if I’m out cycling in the future. Frustratingly I’m also concerned that if I switch the watch to night mode, it also does the same with the phone. Not so great if I’m on call…! I think by turning off most notifications on the watch only I’ve cracked this problem.

The other real annoyance is that the SE doesn’t have an always on screen. Something I wouldn’t have even thought about before spending time with the thing. I’m finding that turning my wrist isn’t always effective at displaying the time. Big fail from a watch point of view!

Going to see if I can get the HR monitoring working with the Wattbike app in the gym. I also need to understand the best way for it to work with Strava and my Garmin bike computer. Ideally I’d like it to give additive data on heart rate to Strava, but I think it’ll end up double logging if I record a workout on the watch and follow my Garmin route.

Anyway, lots to like, lots of figure out!

I'm perfectly happy with the features on my Apple Watch SE 2nd gen but Jesus I want the Ultra for battery life.

Got the ultra and the 2 and a bit day battery life is great…the fact I can charge it up when I’m getting ready for work is brilliant…allows you to keep track of sleep no bother

Does the ultra 2 come with OS 11.XX as standard ? As I’m on iPhone 11 (17.7.2) (At the moment) and I hear iOS 18.XX IS required for watch 11.xx ( Apple Watch 10 too) wasn’t keen to shift to iOS 18 on iPhone 11 - yet.

Thanks.

I just picked up a series 10 watch, having problem though and looking for some help.

My apple ID is a UK account, but I live in Cyprus. Bought the watch locally. When I try to access blood oxygen/ECG features I get an "app not available in your region" message. According to Apple's support page these features are available in the UK and Cyprus, so neither my account or physical location should be causing an issue.

Does anyone have any idea of how to resolve this?

I will attempt to set my apple ID to Cyprus so they match, but I can't switch until a subscription expires at the end of the month.

Hopefully September will bring ultra 3, my original is still going strong and performs perfectly fine but I am noticing the battery life a lot more now that I’m running more. I would change to a garmin or coros but I like it being part of the Apple ecosystem

Just reporting back with an update about this issue.

I called Apple customer services to report the issue and it was escalated immediately to a different team. Initial suspicion was that I'd received a model of watch meant for a different market, but serial number check ruled this out. After granting remote access and providing snapshots of the watch they were able to confirm that I shouldn't be having this issue, but they were unable to replicate it. Next step was for it to be escalated again to a software/bug fixing team.

After approximately 2 weeks of back and forth comms with a team in California, I received an update and all locked features were activated immediately. It would seem that the system works!

No requirement to change my Apple ID location either.

Currently have a S7 which is doing fine, if not a bit of a rubbish battery life. I wear it from ~0630-1030 and by that time the battery has <10% of battery remaining.

I've been using a Whoop for the last year or so which I love for sleep and general activity tracking and I would stay with that but we now have vitality health insurance and they don't accept data from the Whoop (though it seems in Canada they do) it seems a bit pointless wearing two devices. Usually I take off my AW for any exercise and rely on either the whoop or my Wahoo chest strap.

So I'm now considering the AW Ultra 2 as over 3 years the price comes fairly close to each other. I'm just not sure how I would feel sleeping in the AWU2 as they seem really big and bulky compared to my Whoop band but if I need to start wearing it during exercise I'll benefit greatly from the added battery life

So I guess all that waffle to say - what is it like sleeping with the ultra on?

No complaints with it here, worn it every night while sleeping for 2 years. Far bettter overall than a regular Apple Watch. If you like the wahoo stats have a look at the Bevel app, it’s very good and has active devs updating it regularly.

I may just bite the bullet. If I can sell my AW7 for a little bit to take the sting out and my partner has a blue light card so hopefully I can get a 10% discount on the watch.

Just going to be a bit weird going from a barely noticeable Whoop and fairly slim AW7 to a chunky ultra.
