Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 16th January 2025]

I swear if Arsenal had *insert striker* instead of Havertz they would be top of the league right now.

Not sure why the commentators are saying its not over yet, wait for Liverpool to slip up or whatever.

Not going to happen.

The title is well within Liverpool's grasp.
It isn't over but I'm not understanding the, Arsenal have closed Liverpool's massive lead over the past month talk.

Over the last 6 games arsenal have 14 Pts, Liverpool 12 pts. Which is Liverpool's supposed womble
Since they played each other 11 games ago they both have 25pts.
The only side that has cut the lead is really is Forest over the last 6-7 games.

And Newcastle I guess as they are flying recently

First ever NLD was a treat, felt like the team and fans desperately needed that after a poor week. We still need to find our shooting boots but you can't underestimate what a win against them can do for morale, its been a long time since i've heard the emirates that electric and it was a complete contrast to the dire atmosphere against Newcastle. A few more performances like that with the fans behind us and we can really push Liverpool, suddenly gone from dreading the villa game to expecting 3 points. Onwards and upwards!

Ruben Amorim:"It's impossible to win the league with a team that doesn't run."You can do a starting line-up with the best players on the planet, without running they also won't win. We have to run like mad dogs."Need this same energy today.

I want to see a performance tonight Southampton are bottom and we need to be smashing teams like that.

Tonight is huge. The team need to show the same intensity they did against Arsenal and Liverpool - these positive games will be forgotten in the blink of an eye if we struggle later on.

Unlikely to happen. Our players simply aren't good enough in some key positions. Our CBs work fine playing deeper but are not very quick or mobile so playing on the front foot exposes them. Our WBs are not up to snuff so we don't have the attacking threat we need and our forwards are misfiring/not up to it.

Playing against better sides we look better because it doesn't expose our personnel issues so much.

You can tell Amorim has the mentality to demand, the way he comes across he tell. If the players believe, if he can get them running through walls for him, it'll work, still needs signings though.

Players like Ugarte look like they could transform under him.

I do agree, but Southampton are pretty poor. I think Old Trafford is actually a hindrance lately - an early goal will be a big help.

Dalot isn't available so I think we'll see something like -

Zirkzee
Bruno - Garnacho
Mazraoui - Mainoo - Ugarte - Amad

I actually think Zirkzee has looked pretty lively so I think he should get a start as Hojlund is struggling. With Amad pushed forward at RWB, there's plenty of attacking ability there.

Sad, but true.
Improvement is all I want to see. (and three points)

I'm hoping Hojlund has a good game tonight. I've gone from being fairly certain he can make it at this level to 50:50. He's shown he can finish but the rest of his game is under developed. Having watched Chris Wood last night it brought into focus how far a journey Rasmus has to be above average.

This is the problem with our teams mentality. The same against Wolves. They think they can just turn up and win. Zero backbone in those players.

The biggest issue we have is when our wing backs are pinned into a back 5. There’s no width or space in attack and everything breaks down.
