*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

I'm interested in the encoder AMD have worked on, any info on this? Or is it just AV1 they made better?

Be nice if they have worked on H.264 and got it similar to NVENC.

Why not just use AV1?

This was recorded using AV1.

The 9070 (non-XT) seems like an incredible card from those latest leaks. 10-15% behind the 9070 XT in raster & 20% behind in RT, but only 220W vs over 300W & presumably around £100 cheaper.
It could actually end up being the more popular of the two (again, depending on how AMD price it). If it's significantly cheaper and offers a better price/performance, I might even consider it myself!

Yeah a GPU just under 7900 XT in raster and superior in RT for £400 or even less. I might get £200 for my old 7900 XT. :)

Long time since I've upgraded the GPU but interested in a decently priced 9700, but I don't understand why these new AMD cards are predicted to be slower than the 7900XT(X) cards. Why is this? I assume this is just raster performance, but still, why can't they make them faster?

With the 7900 line still be made and updated?

Trying to keep the cost and size down, the 4090 on the same process node is over 600mm, its huge, AMD are trying to keep it in the 300 to 400mm range, which for just shy of 7900 XTX performance is impressive in its self.

Videocardz.

Reading between the lines, it seems retailers were initially asked to pay more than AMD now plans to price the RX 9070 series. As a result, retailers reportedly expect AMD to cover the difference through marketing funds or cashback offers to offset the gap between already shipped inventory and the potential price adjustment for the cards.

Nvidia need to drop their prices so AMD cards can be cheaper! :p

What's more interesting to me is that AMD are months behind on previous payments to retailers so, quite rightly, retailers are loathe to offer up any more 'credit'.
If true that's really bad.

However, the dispute, and possibly the lack of official information, may come from AMD’s handling of cashback payments in the past. The report claim that promised already payments often arrived months late.

Explains the dragging of the feet I reckon and why retailers are tight lipped but getting agitated at the same time.
