NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

There must be a better way of verifying genuine OC supporters, be it active forum members or lurking financial whales.

Start a KYC programme where one must agree to wear an ankle bracelet tracking their location at all times, and remote desktop access to their devices. In the case where someone tries to resell a card on Ebay, or buys anything from the competition, Gibbo sends down one of his sports cars to your current location in the middle of the night, with a pair of Sicilian hitmen inside. They don't speak a word of English and will gut your systems, leaving a motherboard leaking thermal paste out of the socket at the foot of your bed under the sheets.

Sorted, sign me up.
 
Still a little early to be getting too hyped about the Blackwell cards in my opinion, I am interested in the 5090 and have the cash saved to buy one but won't be buying anything till I've seen some proper benchmarks and comparisons to my current 4090 without DLSS and Frame Gen.
I think Frame Gen and DLSS are great when a card is a few years old and struggling with newer titles, but I refuse to spend £2.5k+ on a new GPU only to have the majority of the gains being down to software rather than processing power.
If the raw improvements are the rumoured less than 20% faster across the board then we should all send Nvidia a message by not buying them.
Not wanting to be a party pooper of course but the 50 series is looking rather a lot like the 20 series was back in 2018 which was the last time I also skipped a gen entirely, fingers crossed the reviews are glowing and if so I'll be here at 2pm on the 30th of course trying to get lucky

The tuf was the heaviest and a quick prodding around was that it was all metal enclosure (shroud basically) the gaming trio I can't remember if it was metal with a bit of plastic and the others were all plastic.

I did not like the ventus 4070ti from the moment I powered it on. Noisy and ran hot. The zotac was fine but nothing special. The gaming trio slim 4070ti super was quite good and even though it cooler/shroud was a slim edition it ran slightly warmer and louder than the tuf. The ventus 4070 ti super was pretty much the same as the 4070 ti ventus ran hotter and louder but it didn't bother me as much as I got it fairly cheap.

I quite like the gaming trio slim and it would have easily by far been the best of the bunch had I not gotten the tuf. The ventus is also doesn't have dual bios which is not really a deal breaker but I like to test cards with it to see how much difference it makes.

Another thing I noticed that the power limit is fairly locked down on the 4070 ti/super models.

The ventus didn't allow any power limit over a 100% and the gaming trio only went to like 105% if my memory serves me correctly. The Tuf being an Asus model allowed more headroom but I never go over the stock power limit anyways but it might be something for people to consider if they need more.

Now I want to add while build quality doesn't directly correlate to how cool or how fast a card can run as the headroom is much lower than say the top end cards like a 4090 . In my experience the cards that have better materials and built to a higher standard than the entry models generally run cooler, run quieter and allow more clocking headroom. But it always comes with a price.

At the end of the day the difference between a entry level card and a top end card is like a few frames. And they are fine for the most part but cater for peoples budget. When I was much younger and money was tight I was all about the gigabyte wind force cards. As you get older and you start to earn more you also appreciate the build quality, engineering etc and this applies to all hobbies.

And even though now I only get things like the strix or the suprims I would never ever judge any person who get the ventus or the zotacs or the gigas simply because a long time ago I was there. An enthusiast who gets an entry level 5090 versus an enthusiast with the top end 5090 is still a 5090 owner in my book.

Hell at the moment I am using a Quaddro m4000 (2015 970 equivalent but with 8gb) until I get a 5090. That should tell you all you need to know about me.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and experiences. There is definitely a perceived hierarchy of manufacturers and brands used (windforce, gaming oc, aorus master, etc), but you're right, the performance is near identical.

Something I have become increasingly focused on is the PCB. As graphics cards have pushed power usage higher and higher the differences in PCB quality has become increasingly noticeable. Some, such as buildzoid, actually raised concerns about the reference-based 4090 PCB designs. Granted, I think this was taken out of proportion, but nonetheless it is something I will look at closely. Techpowerup publish high quality PCB photos which is great.

It depends how many OCUK get in stock or know will be delivered shortly. The add to cart button may last 1min, then turn to a pre-order button for a while, then disappear entirely. It all comes down to how much stock they will receive, which is likely to be very slim.
 
Does OCUK know what the restock cadence is going to be for cards ? With work etc I doubt there will be anything left by the time I get to a PC next Thursday afternoon. I’m still not sure why AIBs can’t manufacture enough cards to meet demand. Even console manufacturers manage to launch without drama now. I hope this isn’t going to be a repeat of the 3000 series cards where it took the best part of 6 months to get anything.

They will likely have a rough idea by the time launch comes, and will use that to help inform how many pre-orders they take in. But it's not super clear, e.g. you will get 100 cards a week for the next 5 months. It varies significantly. And yes, if you don't order within the first few minutes, I doubt there will be a 50 series card left (especially for the 5090).

Trump hasn’t actually imposed any tariffs on china yet, only Mexico and Canada from 1st of February. Let’s get some of these cards diverted to Europe.
 
A lot of what Trump says is bluster to try and get people to pre-emptively react, it's highly effective, but I don't think he intends to put sweeping tariffs in place. It would tank the American economy, and I'd imagine a lot of his advisors are telling him to think about things a little and have a plan in place first.
Canada has already bared their fangs with their publicised intention to retaliate at swing states, this has been proven to work to devastating effect before, especially with major importers like Jack Daniels and Harley Davidson.

He's pretty serious about a trade war with the PRC. We'll see though.
 
Most gfx cards are made in Taiwan, but Zotac and Sapphire and some other Radeon brands are made in China. That said of even those cards that are made in Taiwan, the parts (capacitors etc etc) are imported from China, so manufacturers are diverting cards to the US before tariffs are imposed. If tariffs do get added, then we can probably expect a lot more supply to Europe as US demand falls

Just because we don't have tariffs if they're serious you can be sure the US will lean on us and others to do similarly
 
I have only bought founders cards in the past but this time I don’t think I am going to as they will probably be unobtainable due to bots, but my other issue is that I need to waterblock it and with it being such a complex design I think 1. The blocks will be EXPENSIVE 2. More stuff to go wrong in blocking it myself 3. It’s going to take ages for them to be designed properly.

I don’t trust gigabyte with their pre blocked card after aluminium gate…

For anyone interested, I spoke to a rep from a uk based watercooling dealer and they informed me that it would be end of feb, early march for their shipment of alpha cool blocks. These blocks support a bunch of cards but the one I am interested most is the Palit Gamerock. Unfortunately it looks like OCUK are not stocking this one at the moment but hopefully they do soon.

I have a question about reference pcbs, why are people talking trash of them in this forum? Are they vastly inferior? As the cooler is coming straight off and getting blocked build quality of the cooler is not a massive deal for me and with these leaked prices from the enemy I’d happily save 600 quid to get the palit card over the ASUS. I’ve had plenty of palit cards over the years with no failures

But graphics cards sales only contribute 10% of global revenue to Nvidia coffers. You can and everyone can vote with their wallets but Nvidia still won’t give a damn.

When a company has been allowed to the grow so big to the point whether you buy or don’t buy they are indifferent then the graphics card manufacturer landscape needs to change. Will it be intel or amd to fight the good fight on our behalf?

Neither, intel have already proven they don’t give a flying F from their cpu division. They are only are trying to appease us in the budget section of graphics cards sector as that the only place that has any sort of momentum going forward for the time being at least as the company as a whole is in a bad place.

AMD can’t seem to capitalise on nvidia boo boos and while their cpu is hugely popular and successful they can’t seem to turn it around with their graphics card section.
