Don't think it works like that, they get drawn in the pairs they're in. Man City for example will either be drawn against Bayern or Real Madrid.
You're right. It's even on the table I posted earlier in the thread
I was sure I read months ago that it was a straight 9th vs 24th etc but I guess not.
Atalanta, Dortmund, Madrid, Bayern, Milan, PSG, Juve and Citeh can all still go out.

How does the playoff work then? Says Celtic/Man City v Bayern/Real Madrid who then face either Atletico or Leverkusen.
So are City playing Celtic? then either Bayern or Real. I've no idea

edit, sounds like its a draw, seems overly complicated, why not just 9th v 24th and so on in the play off.

9th vs 10th, 11th vs 12th etc in a 2 legged play off. So Bayern or Madrid are essentially out in the group stage as they play each other.
Then it's the RO16 as usual.
It's a draw but with an element of predetermined match ups
So play off 1 is 15th or 16th vs 17th or 18th, which will be decided with a draw. Play off 8 would be the reverse of that fixture.

No, Bayern or Madrid will be drawn against City or Celtic.
So you could end up with Bayern vs City and Madrid vs Celtic or Bayern vs Celtic and Madrid vs City.
Yeah you're right. Still means 1 of either Bayern, Madrid or City are out though which counts as a 'shock exit' in the group stage in this format.
Well, depends how picky you want to be, it looks like Uefa are calling the play off round part of the knockout stage
