EV general discussion

Perfect, not even close, lets just shoot for adequate. You just needs the 12 digit code on the new keeper green slip. So away from perfect i assume this is now illegal as you are driving an untaxed road vehicle?

'Even the MG4 forum?' Surely thats full of the same OAPs? :D

No more 'perfect' advice for you then.

So now this thread has degraded to how do i drive & park my car and how do i tax it.

Enthralling chat.
We could have the “I’m not buying an EV because they don’t meet my needs, followed by EV owners getting all defensive and insisting that all possible reasons for not getting one can be dismissed” argument for the millionth time instead if you’d prefer.

It’s almost as if the thread has run it’s course.

This is still the top reply for me below, somebody with a bit of sense.

I'll happily switch to an EV when they match my own personal driving use.

It’s also worth noting that this thread has a LOT of good information in it regarding ways of charging, tips and tricks to get it cheap and how best to do it to preserve the battery etc. It’s all stuff which can put people off if they don’t know about it and just read the tabloid headlines.

EV ownership isn’t ideal for every situation requires more thinking and planning than an ICE car does, but the running cost savings are huge if you can make it work.

Maybe the thread title should be changed to ‘The one and only EV ownership thread’ and we won’t get as many people coming in and posting ‘never’ before never being seen again…

If it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't have had one.
It's a bit sad when somebody calls you out on asking questions though because they know and I don't :(

Don’t forget to RTFM though ;)

Only if you've got one and it still doesn't address the issue.

That looks Chinese to me :)

Went to drive the ID7 this morning to Brighton and… it hadn’t charged :(

It seems like the software update hasn’t resolved one of the primary issues.

It’s also still trying to charge immediately, even though I have re set up the charge at preferred times.

To be fair to MG, that is crystal clear so I'm not sure what further explanation you are looking for!

My Astra didn't come with a manual which was a huge disappointment. It's available digitally but it's not quite the same as flicking through the paper version.

I am that sad ******** who gladly reads the manual cover to cover on day one of getting a new car though :o

@MrRockliffe - Speachless TBH. I think in your shoes I'd be finding a way of parting company with that particular vehicle!

Are the settings mirrored in the app and car?

Not sure if your VW is anything like my bro's Renault, or my dad's Honda, but we don't use any of the in car controls/scheduling. We both just let the Ohme control it all. For my dad's in particular, as long as the gap between plugging in the car and getting it charging isn't more than 2hrs away, it'll charge dynamically just fine. Any longer and I go into the car app on the phone, refresh the connection (wakes it up), and then when the schedule arrives it charges ok. Seems to be a sleep / wake issue. But we set it to say I need the car by like 1am in the morning and so it starts about 8PM. We can then check the smart meter to see if its pulling the KWh or not. If not, give it a kick. lol.
