*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

I think some of the scalping will adjust. The fact there are 5070Tis and 9070XTs still in stock at such silly £150 - £200+ prices is telling. It will normalise as long as stock is coming through the channels.

IMO the scarcity is artificial & some retailers are just chancing their arm to see how high they can jack prices up whilst people are still panic buying.

The stock that's on sale today didn't magically arrive in the middle of the night. They will have had it yesterday. Most retailers only did a single 2pm release of stock yesterday, creating the illusion that stock is very short and triggering panic buying. And whilst the perception of scarcity continues, there's an opportunity to make a big profit on each card sold.

That was a good rush last night trying to get the last of the MSRP. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful due to putting my CCV number in wrong. Twice. Ah well. It was good to see that @Gibbo tried to get them into the right hands. I'll be waiting for prices to stabilise/drop and then re-evaluate between AMD/Nvidia. Gives a good chance to see which may be the better of all the cards released.

Nvidia will try and get more RTX5070 and RTX5070TI stock out to rain on AMD's parade even if it's a blip. Its how I got my RTX3060TI. Nvidia made some massive drops of the Founders Edition model when the RX6600XT launched(MLID actually said it beforehand).

So it is imperative AMD tries to have more stock at RRP when the RTX5070 FE launches in a few weeks. Nvidia purposely delayed that IMHO,to wait for rebated stock to run out so the RTX5070 would undercut the RX9070/RX9070XT.

The big issue is that too many of the RX9070 models are overbuilt and are obviously are not made to reach RRP. So what we need is more economically designed models like the RX9070 Pulse or RX9070/RX9070XT Reaper. XFX seem to be releasing a dual fan RTX9070XT soon:

Yeh it's this. It's all manufactured to prey on people who just have to have one of these things at any price (mostly for internet points it seems, rather than the actual want for a better card..). They even manipulate the stock of previous gen cards too. If it was like the olden days, Gibbo would be trying to virtually give cards like the 4080 super and 7900xtx away. Instead, insane people are now paying loads more for them than they were available for last year .

Eventually, this hype will subside and both will have no choice but to go back to RRP prices (or maybe even less/have some deals/add a game code).

If stock numbers are to be believed, this will happen relatively quickly for the 9070 series.

It is a pity that the 9070, 9070XT and 5070Ti don't have reference models. If they did then it might potentially help keep the cheaper AIB cards at a better price, at least when there are decent stock levels.

Trying to decide what to do now. I was in the same boat when seeing (pre-orders for) 50 series cards at 10%+ over MSRP. I can't decide if I think a £630 9070XT is worth it. And the fact they used to be £570 just makes it more annoying having to pay more.
I just about think I would've preferred if they'd just made the MSRP £630. At least that way I could've been annoyed at the MSRP being a bit higher than we liked but it might've made buying a card for £630 seems better as at least it was MSRP. Now if feels like I'm getting ripped off if I pay that much.

Buy the 9070XT and blow some minds in this thread :p

No it isn’t. You cannot get a 5070Ti for anywhere near £730. If you are going to moan about retailers price gouging, at least have the decency to compare like with like. The cheapest 5070Ti I saw in stock was £860 or so and many pushing over £1000.
so the correct comparison for a premium card is over £1000

Who's going to be starting the 9070/9070XT owners thread then?

Appreciate that there is still a fair amount of discussion still around getting hold of a card but some of the FSR4 improvements seem fantastic, and the Sapphire cards so far seem to have some insanely well performing cooling (Pure and Nitro never exceeding 55 deg at full load?!)
From what I've seen the memory temps get quite hot on a number of the models reviewed.
But if you bring that up you just get told it's within spec.
Which confuses me as to why people would then care about the GPU temp being low. It apparently doesn't matter as long as it's within spec (what is the limit, 100°C?) so why would 55 be any better than 93 (again, assuming a 100°C limit)?

My thinking too. I tried at 2pm but gave up because it was silly.

Then I got sucked back in, in the evening when another drop was promised.

To be honest I limited my chances as I only really wanted the gigabyte (or maybe the steel legend) as I didn't want red in my rig (fussy I know :p). I probably could have got a pulse but didn't give in. I'll wait. Won't pay a penny over £569 for one as I won't pay more than what others got them for.

I saw the ASUS Prime model had quite memory temps - but both Sapphire models seem to still be quite low.

I'd happily have the card running a little hotter if it meant the fan speeds were lower - and the Pure & Nitro were running at full load, at 55°C with fans never exceeding 36% speed.

The demand has been enormous for these cards, AMD does not usually deal with this kind of demand. They had more stock at launch and still wasn't enough.
I'm not denying the demand, all I'm saying is this is the current normal and it definitely isn't unprecedented (quite the opposite). It won't get any better in the near future (unless people stop buying graphics cards) either because we are still stuck with only 1 factory in the world producing these chips.

Adding to that USA pulling out from military alliances recently, soon enough Taiwan might be in real danger of being taken over by China and that will be it for the graphics cards for a while. At least TSMC feels real threat now, hence they already said they will be investing a lot of money in the USA to build up production but that will most likely mean considerably higher prices again too (and takes years to build and get up to speed).

Tldr - PC gamers are screwed.

Personally, now that the mist has descended I'm just going to wait. In a couple of weeks prices will (hopefully) have stabilised, there will be reviews detailing the differences between models, and the nuances of these cards will be better understood.

If MSRP was set at £630 the unscrupulous shops would mark them up even higher, probably start at £750 a card . That’s what’s wrong with capitalism.

You're being too conservative. The Gigabyte Gaming OC was £569 yesterday. I've seen it as high as £779 today. And that was at a major, long-established PC parts retailer

At least there has been some effort to force some cards to be sold for MSRP - even cards like the Steel Legend and Gaming OC, which aren't even supposed to be MSRP in the first place.

What is disappointing is that you can clearly see that retailers are now drip-feeding stock to create scarcity.

Also nice to see the usual crowd have descended at the first hint of negativity
