General Headphone Audio

Good choice, the Edition XS is the price to performance king in the eggy line.

£191 as well.

Only issue with it is the headband pressure, worthy of DIY modding to improve it with a suspension band you can get fairly easily.

Oh and be sure to check out this playlist of headphones/speaker tracks :D

Thanks, I will check it out after the amp arrives too! That's the only thing not been shipped yet.

I am amazed...it's in Birmingham already, from China! Free delivery...£191...

On the other hand, the Xduoo still hasn't been shipped yet.

Edifier Stax S5s, best wireless hps have used so far. These 2nd generation planar drivers are cleaned up with not as much pops/clicks just a clean detailed sound and they work in all areas games, movies and music.

Got my Edition XS, 4 days from China...

Only listening on my phone through the Apple DAC (EU version so half power vs American one).

First impression, it is very comfortable enough on my head, I have to move it up a couple of notches anyway. It's comfortable, love the large ear cups. The metal ladder design on the outside makes is almost like a musical instrument if I run my nails across it lol

Sounds very nice is the initial impression. Amazing for £191.

(side note amp still not dispatched yet!

edit- just shipped! They must have heard me lol)

Nice.
What amp have you ordered?

I know nothing about amps, what made you pick that one. I was looking at a FiiO k7 as an upgrade to my creative X4.
A few things, some practical, some preferences.

For practical

1 - On/Off Switch
2 - USB-C if possible (I am trying to unify all my devices to USB-C
3 - Needs to fit in that spot below in the photo
4 - Balanced 4.4mm and 6.3mm out
5 - Bluetooth In
6 - More power than other options I was looking at (K11), like 50% more power (this isn't THAT important, more future proofing)

Preferences

1 - I like the design, the gun metal look, the red knob
2 - Built-in PSU, no external power brick. This ties into the USB-C idea, any kettle lead can work.
3 - It's a heavy unit, almost a kg so it shouldn't move when i plug in and unplug the cable
4 - Reliability in terms of Fiio. (https://www.head-fi.org/threads/earbuds-round-up.441400/post-18596993). I was in Head-Fi and someone has a problem with a Fiio product and the company just blanked him. I also googled "Fiio K11 + issues/problems" and found several issues, some little some annoyance, some dead and most relate to the non-R2R version but as a whole, I found some. I then did the same for the XA-02 and I found nothing, not a single complaint. Either it's perfect or nobody reported it or it got resolved quickly. The reliability isn't the whole reason but I realise the R2R side was the reason i wanted to try the K11, and not the K11 itself.

Thanks that helps a lot.
I bought today the HIFIMAN Sundra today and was looking at getting a better ampDAC than I have now.

Get the one you prefer, i think in the end there are not that many truly bad product. @mrk loves the K11 R2R, as are many many people. It will need some feet added though.

The feet are a few quid on amazon and come in a big pack so can be use don other stuff too. I've yet to see a single amp that comes with feet that are actually tacky enough to provide acceptable friction, so these Amazon ones are leagues better than all stock feet on amps of low mass like class D as you don't end up pushing it back when inserting headphones or pushing in the volume pot etc to go into settings and stuff.

My K11 R2R is now the DAC too which feeds the power amplifier to my speakers, so now have that R2R sound on both headphones and speakers.

Always trust a Zeos review, always aligns with my own ears once i get something or if I get something and watch his review after.

Imagine paying 8k for suicidal headphones that are also built like £300 headphones but is missing soundstage and the pads and headband from the base models. Too clinical, no soul, all for 8000 currencies....

Anyone have recommendations for custom cable in the UK. Recent has my HD490 pros delivered and was going to pick up a balanced cable, makes sense to look at a custom cable rather than picking up the sennheiser version.
I get I probably won't notice much difference but it will at least look good

Thanks @mrk I'm using a fiio k11 so it has the balanced output. With the standard input I run low gain and it has enough volume for me so I doubt I'll have much audible improvement if may at all.

I checked custom cans but they seemed rather pricey, I'll check out arctic though, thanks.

Remember it's the construction and lightweight you are paying for with custom cables so expect anywhere from £45 ish and up for a decent cable. Linsoul do some on Amazon and they are great but QC can be a lottery as I found with one cable hence going Arctic instead which are probably the upper end of quality before stepping into silly money for diminishing returns.

What’s everyone’s opinions on the AirPods Max? For the past couple of weeks I’ve been hankering a pair, for ease of use, ease of connection as all my devices are Apple.

However I know there are better ones out and about for the price.

They look a bit weird.

They sound fine.

The carry case is flipping horrific.

Not sure I’d use them if I was given a pair for free

But I recognise the switching stuff can make them quite appealing if you already have the apple ecosystem.

Ultimately it depends what you want from some headphones I think :)
