General Headphone Audio

What’s everyone’s opinions on the AirPods Max? For the past couple of weeks I’ve been hankering a pair, for ease of use, ease of connection as all my devices are Apple.

However I know there are better ones out and about for the price.
I like them. I'm not sure I'd buy them again though. The noise cancelling is great and they sound good but the case sucks. Up to you really. If you want top end sound quality you can probably do better for the price.

Sony xm1000 mkii (noise cancelling) & sennheiser hd650’s

The latter I’ve just ordered some new pads to refurb them as they were tatty

I have to say the Bowers and Wilkins PX7 S2E sound amazing when plugged into a DAC and listening to Hi-res Lossless audio from Apple Music. They sound great wireless but are so much better when plugged in.

Got some new IEM - Simgot EW300.

I have the EW200. Very impressive. The only thing I hate about IEMs is that they don't have ANC which I need for various reasons.

I want to try the Zero Blue...

Although truth be told, I think the Kiwi Ears Cadenza sounds more to my liking and it cost less than the EW300 (too much V shaped). I might just suck it up and get some Ety ER3-SE instead.

I need to update my knowledge on what is out there.

I also have the Crinacle Zero:RED which are very good.

Anyone have recommendations for custom cable in the UK. Recent has my HD490 pros delivered and was going to pick up a balanced cable, makes sense to look at a custom cable rather than picking up the sennheiser version.
I get I probably won't notice much difference but it will at least look good
https://oidiosound.co.uk/headphone-cables fantastic customer service and cables.

My Arctic cable has developed a fault, the right channel is imbalanced if I move the amp end of the cable :/

Have emailed Arctic and will just request a refund I think, shame as the cable is super high quality otherwise.

Ordered a new Tripowin again and this time round purple, also looks like they have updated the headphone end connector with shorter wrap so no longer snags on the shoulders with big headphones!

^ old Tripowin which I colour coded with same oem length wrap)

Guess I will stay Tripowin then assuming no faults down the line. This was £35 and has no issues with microphonics .

Isn't it absolutely sacrilege that I haven't had a proper Arya listening session in over 2 months!

In other news I'm absolutely loving the Technics Az100. They're soo good I could happily drop the rest of my collection.

Got some balanced cables and a 4.4mm balanced to 3.5mm adaptor so I don’t need to swap the cable and can use the XS and HD600 with almost everything else with a 3.5/6.35mm jack.

£20 for the cable and £9 for the adaptor. Already have a similar cable for the HD600, very nice for the money. Much cheaper than even the official Sennheiser replacement cable.

@Raymond Lin can you tell me the name of both the cable (looks like an Openheart) and the adapter? My Edition XS has also arrived so keen to get the balanced cable.

Yeah, Openheart, 16core versions, 1.4m.

This is the adaptor. I don't think OCUK sells 4.4mm adaptors!

Openheart also makes the same adaptor but direct to 6.35mm at double the price. Personally, I prefer it go down to 3.5mm so it works for everything and I can go back up to 6.35mm if I want. Plus, it's cheaper.

Team Red here, I think they are better than the Blues imo and tuned to Crincales preferred FR, the Reds already had newer drivers with less distortion than the original Blues, the Blues 2's have now been upgraded to match the drivers in the Reds but obviously tuned differently, it comes down to if you like the Harman target or not, that's what the Blue's and the Blue 2 has doubled down on that being more Harman focused than the originals, I personally find it a little fatiguing (shouty), the Reds are imo more balanced with more body.

I meant the Blue 2....not the original.

Although at the moment i am enjoying the EW300. I am still gobsmacked that they are solid metal everytime i pick them up.

I know, I'm referring to the Blue 2's in my post, it was mentioned twice, I referred to the original Blue as context and comparison, the Blue line are all about Harman Target curve, the original was one of the first IEM's at the time to be tuned to that target curve, the Blue 2's have gone further down that Harman road which is fine if your a fan of that but some people can find it a little fatiguing in the upper mids and lower trible, I just wanted to establish that the Blue 2 to is not an upgrade to the Reds, the Blue 2 have now been upgraded to the same drivers as Reds, it comes down to which tuning you may prefer, Harman (Blue) or Crinacle's preferred target (Red) which is a little mellower.
