AMD RYZEN 9950X3D / 9900X3D IN STOCK

I should just get a 9800X3D but I've been looking for a while and can't find one at MSRP.

What?

It's in stock in loads of places as well as far as I can see?

The 9800x3d RRP is $499 USD so it's being sold for "RRP" as much as the 9900/9950x3d is .

I assume he is referring to the £450 price they where when released.

currently £488.99 on OCUK

I know but sometimes people refuse to buy items once they have seen them at lower prices.

I got my 9800X3D for £500 towards the end of November

It can, for some, be difficult to get over when much had been made about the MSRP. Perhaps just as much when the MSRP seems limited to a certain number of units.
It somewhat seems like bait and switch, at least it does to me.

But, there can be needs. And if you are the one needing the component to get a system up and going, and it is urgent, just reluctantly accept it being what it is.

Damn annoying though, as to what can seem to be normalised selling tactics these days.

I get it to be honest. If you compromise on these things continually it's a slippery slope until you get things like £2500 GPUs...
It’s the lack of competition that dictates the price more so in my opinion. Virgin Media are a prime example. My bill has gone up even though everything is exactly the same as last contract. If I refuse to pay I lose out, I’m not going to sit in darkness to prove a point. We need competition to bring the prices in line.

I agree regarding the GPU’s, everyone has their limit and if everyone refused to pay it would stop……Then we have people paying double and it all goes out the window.

What coolers have you all got to cool this? I've ordered the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE just hope its good enough for it.

Just to follow up on this after my belated setup - I'm getting low 30's idle (31-33) and the highest I've seen so far is 71. I could probably sweat it with prime 95, shut the study door and all that nonsense to get it higher, but in short I don't find it noticeably hotter than my 7800X3D.

Caveat of course is, that CPU had been on there ~18 months... was the CPU paste going 'off'? who knows.

It's a little the over-paying and a little that I think I'm just trying to talk myself into a 9950X3D... (but it's a hard sell)

Yup, talking myself out of it too
AM5 boards are not cheap and I'm limited to mATX choices to boot.
My total upgrade outlay is looking like ~ £1500

I think I'll wait, save the money and bend over for Nvidia to shaft us during the 60 series release - will upgrade the complete stack at that time

Good ones are creeping up, my 650E was £190 or something like that, and it doesn't even have spdif out

Took my 7950x out yesterday to replace with a 9950x3d. The MX-4 was dry and simply flaked off the CPU and block. I was very surprised it was like that after only 14 months...

I do not believe its an issue due to the fact it is not doing anything, scroll down in HWinfo and check what your PPT is, i bet its 40W or less. More intelligent people then me can explain but it has something to do with that until the cpu is doing something the watts and amperage wont go up and all should be ok, please dont hysr take my word for it, do some extra research but i am pretty sure that does volts on pretty low load is fine
So just for reference (looking at screenshots, don't really wanna put it back to defaults to check) at idle ---
Default it was drawing 76w @1.376v with package temp of 52.6c, ccd#0 38.8c & ccd#1 40.5c
VID lowered to 1v is now 35w @ 0.9v with package temp 46c, ccd#0 35.3c and ccd#1 33.3c
Stock 26% util (installing a program for like 10 seconds) saw 73c package temp, whereas now running p95 also for 10 sec with 100% util package temp is 50c so a massive temperature difference. Cinebench I compared vs one online, and mine scored 2000 and stock scores should be 2400, so obviously performance is taking a hit now being clocked so much lower but until I hear back from Asrock on whether it's normal behaviour or not I feel much more comfortable leaving it with a voltage cap. Has been 100% stable and isn't even close to being a bottleneck so all good for the moment.
Also, in case it makes a difference whatever the max vid is set at, it just sits there.. so me setting it to 1v it varies from 0.9-1v, but stock setting was 1.425v and never went lower than 1.36.. surely it has idle states where it should drop down much more? Again, not too clued up on AM5 but pretty sure it should.

You say idle but idle is never 0%. I am watching mine now and idle usage for me is between 1.3 and 5.3%, CPU Package power between 34 and 67.7W, Voltage between 0.89 and 1.37V and temp between 47 and 52 degree. Now if i load Cinebench R23 i get 200W package power, Volts 1.08 and temp 72 degree scoring 41269 (only changed Expo everything else default)

SO as you can see from my results it only takes 5% CPU usage for the voltage to jump to 1.37 but the power draw and tempo stay relatively low. Do you have a background task runing that is constantly using 5% CPU usage?

For reference, utilisation at what I was considering idle, was 1.5-1.7%% so the same on both. It's a brand new windows install only have steam and discord installed and neither of them were doing anything at the time.
Interesting you say yours drops down in voltage from 1.3x under low load conditions to only 1.08v when load increases to 100%? Seems strange behaviour and totally backwards from what I saw on Intel... maybe what I was seeing is normal then and it also would've reduced down under load.
After I was seeing such increased values at low load I didn't want to put it under load in case it spiked much higher.
Begs the question why it needs such high voltage at low load? I might try bump the max to 1.1v later on and run default clock speeds and see if it's stable.. if so then surely that's a win-win in having lower power draw/temps and still getting full performance?
Again, still learning, probably a reason for it just don't know why.

Its all to do with voltage, watts and amperage which i sort of understand but not well enough to but it into words. I have had every generation of Ryzen CPU's and frpm memory they havbe all acted the same

I think Jay may of done a vidfeo explaining it some time ago will see if i cn dig it out when i get a chance
