The Radeon RX9070XT / RX9070 Owners Thread

Ok, My new GPU arrived. It's an Asrock Steel Legend.

Some pictures. Excuse the quality, I am not a good photographer!!

First the Box. I scratched it while opening.

Now after I installed it in my PC.

And finally, turned on.

As you can see it's a pretty tight squeeze. The dimensions on the websites are a little bit off. As I have 320mm of space there, that's according to my measurements and the Corsair website. The card is supposed to be 298mm but as you can see it almost fills the space!! It's bigger than the 6900XT that it's replacing, that's for sure.

Had no problems, apart from having to reinstall the AMD drivers after I put in the card. When it first booted up it was like it was running a really low resolution it was all out of focus and the mouse was stuttering around the screen like crazy. Thankfully a reinstall worked and it seems fine now.

Off to try it in VR now.
In fairness it only seems to reach up to the radiator, which is probably 27mm thick? (based on those fans being 25mm), so 298mm + 27mm = 325mm.

EDIT: Also, I have that case!

Out of interest, what's everyone else's preference for zero rpm.

On or off?

I've always tended to leave it on (especially as I often have my case on the desk, so the reduced noise is appreciated), UNLESS the cards' zero RPM function is not well tuned, and allows the card to get too hot, or doesn't kick in quickly enough (or causes any sort of stability or other quirks).

In the most recent cards I've used with it however, it worked pretty well, and the GPUs were staying pretty cool under idle/desktop, even with the fans off, so it felt unnecessary to disable (and that's even with the cards overclocked etc).

I've got it off, as I can't hear the fans on low anyway and when zero rpm mode is on and it's gets up to 50c it's ramps the fans up high for a bit to start them up and I find that annoying. I've just got them on a silent RPM up to 50c or something then a gradual increase.

So while digging deeper into the whole 5800x3d potentially bottlenecking my undervolted and powerlimited 9070 I gave Helldivers 2 a go. Stood still on my ship and looked towards the galaxy map, all alone. Even here the GPU were not maxed out with 99th% showing less than half of actual framerate. Something is up. CPU is not even being taxed that much.

I don't know if Windows is being a bit of a "censored" again. Not the first time I had to wrestle with this OS and I just cannot be bothered. I'm just gonna install Linux and see how that goes.

That might well be CPU throttling. If I remember, Helldivers 2 only really uses two CPU cores, so it won't show 100% CPU utilisation when throttling. Do you have any per-core monitoring software?

My Sapphire Pulse 9070xt appears to have died. I'm not getting any display and am stuck in a boot loop with the machine powering off and restarting after a few seconds. Fans aren't spinning on the card either.

I've reseated the card and checked all the power cables are ok. Any other suggestions before I rma it?

mmm reset the cmos battery it got me out of a loop like this once

no ipgu so you cant test without the card , did you sell the old card yet

I've tried resetting cmos and no difference. Old card has gone so can try that.

Its been fine since I got it and then switched on this evening and it's dead.

I'll find some.. The CPU is cooled by an Arctic Freezer 2 240 with the offset plate so cant see how that is not enough. Ofcourse something could have happened/shifted causing higher temps. In any case, I'll take a look. Cheers.

EDIT: CPU seems fine according to temp readouts unless I'm missing something. It's either driver or windows hassling me. I'm currently thinking the later.

After sleeping in it I'm still not 100% sure what I want to do, but the thought did occur to me that if I return it, how long do I then wait? Do I wait for a £10 drop? £20? Do I wait for MSRP? Will they start to drop lower than that? How long will that take, how long do I wait?

This is the thing with Nvidia cards, it's rare that they drop prices by a significant amount. Although you do have to worry about them releasing Ti and SUPER versions...
So Nvidia have lowered prices...
Didn't see that coming. Good to see my powers haven't deserted me though, even if the aim is a little off!

The fans don't spin until it hits a certain temp. They don't spin on boot either.

You don't have Radeon Chill turned on do you? Assume not with that FPS, but there isn't a stray setting holding things back is there?
