Assassins Creed Shadows - AC finally (at last) heads to Japan

I don't think it's that bad.

My laptop has 32GB RAM, some i9 and 16GB 4090m and on the quiet mode, whilst using frame generation anyway, I was able to play around 60fps. Sometimes dipped to 50 when the lots was going on.

If I play on full fat mode I'm able to get about 90fps and that's at 3840x2400 with settings being a mix of High/Ultra. I think I turned clouds down to medium, not the highest RT mode and I think only the player hair gets the fancy treatment,

I think if I used my 3840x1600 monitor the FPS would be even better still.

I'm happy enough with the performance. Though if you want everything turned up to 11 it probably deserves a hefty PC.

Not sure what the scout system adds really
Sending scouts into an area gives you precise target location on the map, so you could mindlessly run to that blue dot like in any other game. If you don't use scouts, the location will be approximate like "near burnt out houses, north of the Hoji temple" and you don't get a marker to run to. I think it's the most innovative gameplay feature in AC:S, and forces us to explore
it's like the gaming equivalent of fast food
There are multiple menus here :) Fast food = "tag" enemies with gamey markers, see through walls, tick the instant takedown option, upgrade to teleporting attacks, run around like headless chicken around blind enemies in easy stealth setting, etc. But, if we disable HUD, put stealth on expert difficulty, use the noose instead of the instakill switchblade, ignore the optional stupid upgrades to weapons and mechanics = the best ninja simulator that we ever had. It's never gonna be haute cuisine though, I'll accept that :D

a streamer tried it last night and the ones with swords can still hit you, so you have to kill those first then roll around like an idiot, pretending the combats hard

That's quite funny, and a bit game-breaking if they can't patch it easily - but how could it be patched easily..I'm not sure it could be..it's not like its just like a particular weapon is underpowered so they can't just increase the damage or whatever if the weapon can't even touch you

Someone at Ubi should've done the world a favour and deleted it from their servers, Backups included, Prior to launch :D

Mind you, if they had, and given just how superb KCD2 is , then what game this year would people have to vent about? Could be months before the next opportunity arises , people would have to wait all the way until Mays release of Doom the Dark Ages for the next big chance to complain. Thats a long time to pent up ! :D

but whats the point in rolling around on the floor in the first place? its not like assassinate is popping up on the screen.

theres literally 0 reason to ever do it

I guess you could plan your route through an enemy fort, grab the main chest or whatever and then get the hell out of there, before an enemy with an appropriate weapon turns up?

Meh - there is an okayish game in here trying to get out but the usual Ubisoft decisions have hurt it.

The Yasuke character - totally not needed - shoehorned in to tick the box presumably. Just doesnt fit the gameplay at all. Almost like they had done the game and then had a group meeting where someone said "wouldnt it be great if we had a black Samurai in this"

The story starts well but just like Mirage they then pretty much chuck the momentum in the bin for some unknown reason- in favour of lazy cut and paste "investigate this guy and kill him" repeat quests.

The "open world" also isnt really as there are a lot of impassible hills and pretty much nothing away from the roads that they obviously want you to follow.

GOT and even Rise of the Ronin have both done this sort of thing a lot better.

I’m only level 6 but having a lot of fun just discovering things and getting into fights where possible.

I wanted more AC and this ticks that box. So I’m happy anyway :)

Have just started, what a beautiful game. Seems to run well on my 7900XTX with frame gen, 4K and ultra settings.

Have managed to get Bluetooth on my controller working finally (Xbox controller currently) and everything reaching my reclining chair corner. One hurdle remains, to see if my second screen remembers its settings. If not, 5080 here I come.

Should be able to play this a fair bit on the weekend.

Tired after work and fancied some brainless slop so this fit the bill nicely. Still getting minced by normal enemies if I go in gung ho but feels too easy on normal.

Something weird with the lighting too in HDR, when I lit something, the scene would then get darker than it was before I lit the source.

Assassinate wherever possible, rather than melee.

Also, enemies that are strong and tanky.. if you drop down off a roof and assassinate, even though you're not strong enough, It will knock a huge chunk off their health bar, so you stand a much better chance when you have to start going at them with your katana. :D
