Gamers, What's Your Audio Set Up?

I had that BT20A, it sounds good but has the rubbish volume dial pot, and the markers on the tone dials, none of them were perfectly aligned straight when set to the middle notch so menaced by OCD.

YouTube algorithm strikes again.

It's always difficult to tell how something sounds from a phone. Initially the audio in that video sounds quite good and it appears impressive.

However if you listen again there is issues, no warmth in the sound especially the bottom end. Also the top end is harsh. There is sibilance, that is probably from the DAC side, that would drive me nuts to listen to for any length of time. Look at internal pics of it's caps, and see how small it's capacitors are.

Over AudioScienceRevew they measure everything, but measurement never say how anything sounds.

How are we supposed to find out how it sounds before buying?

Good old bricks and mortar stores for these kinds of things don't exist anymore

What is a pot?
Potentiometer, used as an analogue method of controlling the volume level that mrk mentioned as been inaccurate on the fosi audio product he had. They are known to be prone to issues matching the volume level of the left and right channels when set at low volumes but usually are fine once set to higher levels.

My musical fidelity x-can v2 suffers from this at low volume. It is unbalanced until I turn it up more. I always found that annoying.

Whilst the digital volume dial on the xduoo isn’t as tactile in feeling, it is however balanced.

Remember though even if you can't hear it, it can still play a part in the overall soundstage or other areas of the range, for example really low down bass you might not be able to hear, but the resonance it creates in the speaker cabinet exhausted through the ports or resonated through the driver cone up front can be "felt" if that makes sense. This ultimately is all down to the speaker or headphone engineering.

I think it’s down to hearing as well as everything else…but hearing above all.

Like 99.99999% hearing and I’m not bothered about the rest l because it’s not significant to me since I can’t hear it and I’m not going to chase after it. This is where I think some audiophile goes into the snake oil territory.

I have to actually hear it or as you said, notice a difference.

I was not criticising the person for making the video, only saying what it sounded like in the video.

One thing with these smaller devices, is more easy to return with distance selling.

The shows can be a good place to listen to gear, last year at the North West Audio show there was a room with Wiim products, however don't remember the Wiim amp being demoed.

Is there any audio shows in london or nearabouts?

I've been to the Hifi Show in Bristol a couple of times. On 1 hand, it is good to listen to some absolute monster of a system, I still remember this Chord mono bloc set up that floored me. bBut also, the room acoustics are awful in most of them as it is just in a hotel when I went.

The takeaway I came away with at the time is how good my system was at like 1/10th of the price, instead of coming away wanting to upgrade, I came away knowing I have it pretty good already and then I stopped chasing.
