We currently have a 2018 Captur. It's been fine but as the kids are growing up, we are finding it small and it's totally gutless .

My girlfriend quite likes the Peugeot 2008/3008. I quite like the look of them myself but am here for suggestions.

Nothing BMW/Audi really, for our budget and thinking of servicing costs etc.

We have been happy with the Captur so something similar but a bit bigger with more go would be great.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Na, just not ready to go electric personally :)
It's ok, you'll only have another half a dozen posts from Journey telling you that you really need an EV but you just don't know it before you can move on :p

I don't think the Peugeot 2008 is the right move if the Captur is becoming an issue due to space - the 2008 is virtually the same size.

The 3008 is at least a segment higher and so would have marginally more space.

A few other things to look at, assuming you're wanting to stay with the 'crossover SUV' type style - Skoda Karoq, Seat Ateca, VW T-Roc, Kia XCeed, Mazda CX-3

If you were happy to move away from the crossover SUV, then things like a Skoda Octavia would be worth looking at, the estate has more room than most would ever need.

Edit - not a specific car recommendation but the sort of thing that you might be able to find - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202503200364504 - the SE L trims are usually pretty well specified.

Thanks for this.

Honestly, I had the same thoughts regarding the 2008. I feel it's quite close in size.

If it was up to me, I'd be keen on an estate or something but she has this thing about driving bigger cars. So the crossover SUV seems to fit her comfort zone a bit. It's mostly herself that uses it all week as I have my own selfish run about, but at the weekends I tend to take to the helm of we go on a trip etc :D

I love the Xceeds but would want the more modern one, which is pushing outside out budget I think.

What I don't like about Peugeots is many have a strange instrument binnacle design, where you have to look over the steering wheel to view the instruments.

Skoda Octavia estate
Skoda Fabia estate
Ford Focus estate
Hyundai i30 estate
Toyota Auris estate

Don't be a total donkey, or are you offended at suggesting a suitable vehicle in the price bracket.
You forget there is so much misinformation and total FUD out there people just didn't even use their own brain it think at all critically.

Any way love you too, cheers for the positive productive attitude in helping someone make any informed decision. :) :D :p ;)

Ford kuga
VW Tiguan
Volvo xc40
Skoda Kodiaq
Honda CRV

Or do it properly and buy an estate - Passat, A6, Octavia or Superb, 3/5 series estate etc etc

My wife has a 2008, it's not massively bigger than my Ibiza inside. Other than the boot is a bit deeper

Kia Sportage. I've had two. Great, cheap, massive space, economical family cars.

I'd never set foot in one prior to ordering my first one. The thought being if they were so terrible, there wouldn't be so many of them on the road.

Echo this. We've got a 2017 GT Line S which we have had for 3 years now and its been great. It has the 1.6T engine so its even moderately fun/nippy.

Personally I'd first be looking for a Skoda Superb estate. Absolutley cavernous thing, and you should never run out of space in it (unless your wife is like mine and just uses up all the space regardless of the length of trip).

If she does "need" the higher driving position, my old man has a Skoda Karoq, which is a nice enough motor. Should be plenty room in there really. The Kodiaq is the bigger one though. I'd personally be looking for a Tiguan, but then the Tiguan I'd want is probably a touch out of budget. Maybe not though, I stopped looking at them 6 months ago, so unsure of their current value.

I have had a few rental SUV / Crossover like things recently. Usually of a Japanese variety. And they are all ok. Nothing offensive, nothing nice. Just fine. I'd guess they are all reliable, hence the rental companies being full of them in Norway. But then again, they are all hybrids too. And I have no doubt all out of your budget. But I'd imagine older ones aren't any better. Tools to do the job, and that's about it. If that's what you want though, then they will be fine.

Nobody is offended, just your crusade to try and get everyone into an EV with snide little digs like "oh you must do loads of 500 mile trips then" is getting tedious, there's no need to be posting like that. Make your suggestions and move on if people say they aren't interested.

Why would I suggest something I think is worse? What a pathetic stance on things. Hey go buy a Pentium III is was my favourite CPU. I suggest what I think is a good fit for the required vehicle and would not suggest anything otherwise.

Are you now suggesting an Ioniq 5 is not a good fit given the opening post? Ah yes I must be on a crusade as I was the first person to reply without a clarification, and then I dared asked why it might not be suitable given they had indicated they like the look of it. Why are you on some sort of crusade to attack me for making a suggestion? Tell you what put me on ignore if you don't want to see what I post, and don't have anything positive to add yourself.
