NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

Depends how you see it, but it's a +37% premium vs a widely available 5070 ti at a major competitor, for +14% frames. Only comparing OCUK, it's a +25% premium against the 5070 ti, again for +14%ish frames.
Where did you learn maths ? Can’t see any 5070ti anywhere under around 800 that’s around a 25% premium for a £1000 5080 not 37%

Are you saying this as someone who has one in hand? I’ve not seen anything on the 5090 Ventus from an owner’s perspective.
Not the 5090 - but I did pick up a 5080 Ventus for MSRP near launch day so was delighted right up until I got it out of the box - looked and felt cheap and lightweight. Once installed coil whine wasn't great and the fan noise was pretty bad too, as they would get north of 2k RPM in moments. Note this was the non-Plus model so has an even smaller heatsink than the Ventus Plus versions which might be better and may reflect the 5090 version. Got rid of it pronto and realised I'm one of those people who actually gets some value from the higher end cards (albeit the premiums being charged are pretty nuts).

But the Ventus pushes out FPS just like the more expensive models with less outlay and for lots of people that will be all that matters!

Anyone elses Mrs think you were rife on Tinder with all these HotStock notifications
No way would my wife ever believe I was rife on Tinder. Surprisingly, near-middle-aged curmudgeonly boffins who are into Napoleonic military history aren't a commodity with the Tinder set. But she did tell me to "turn those bloody things off" at one point.

On my 5090 delivery issue OCUK got back today that they received the parcel back, it looked fine, and are reshipping it toute suite. I guess DPD just didn't like the color of the box, or consider haribo as contraband...? Go figure. We'll see if/when I get it, but feeling better than I did.

This is now two snafus with shipping cards -- only cards I've bought in past year -- to me in past few weeks. First, the outfit I bought my 9070xt from had it and others stolen in transit from DPD truck: now, this one that reached my local depot, then inexplicably was shipped directly back to OCUK.

Like you say, the Ventus does the job, but the past ones I've had (4080, 3080ti, I think) do feel rather lighter, bare bones and more plastic-y than all other models. I'd say spending a bit more is worth it. Moreover, I do recall the fan curve needing to be more aggressive due to lighter cooler. But again, it's still an "OK" solution and plays games just as well as a Strix or Suprème for 25-30% less.

I would usually agree. The difference this time is that the jump up to the higher end cards appears much more than previous generations. 50% jump to the Astral, and the Surpim and Aorus master are virtually non-existent, plus not much cheaper.

Where 5070ti is under £750?
Despite everyone on the planet knowing this massive retailer I'm thinking of, it's against the forum rules for me to elaborate further so you'll have to use your noggin on that. The MSI Shadow is/was easily available at £729.

But also the point stands even if you compare OCUK against itself on price-to-performance, so there's not really any metric by which the 5080 is the best value right now in my book.

Astral 5080 now £200 cheaper than just afew weeks ago. Not great if you just brought one for that much.

I got mine for £1,483 six weeks ago, not puchased from OCUK. If I did, I would have an even bigger loss

Didn't OCUK sell Palit Gamerock 5090's at £2,700 at one point?

There's a dozen more stores selling GPUs than OCUK and the preorder place...

I had a very pleasant experience collecting the 5090 Vanguard in store, at my convienience. Didn't have to worry about empty boxes, DPD, or delivery driver 'mishaps'.

The guy at the desk asked me what I was upgrading from, I said 'a 5080'. He said 'oh...' Felt a bit silly tbh, like what am I even doing

The inflated prices will disappear soon. You just have to wait a few months, no big loss. Even the scalpers are charging less than the stores at the moment. Ocuk seems to be one of the biggest scalpers currently.

My point exactly. In the past (3090, 4090), the difference between a Ventus and the next tier up, say, a Gaming OC/Trio/TUF was maybe £150-200. Now, it's more like £400-500. I'd accept having a running hair dry 5 ft from my head rather than pay that premium. You can buy a near top-end CPU for that price difference.

While the pro scalpers are dropping prices, there's now a second wave of what I would qualify as a descendent species - Procrastinativa Scalpeur (french twist makes it legit) trying to unload MSI Shadows (both 5070 Ti and 5080) - the ones who sold at MSRP from that big place (and I am now proud part of the crowd that knows!) - on the bidding site.
Like... buddy, they were available for some hours, the 5070Ti you could even pre-order until almost next day, the scalping life is not for you.
