Oh man, it is! From having to wait over 6 months for a driving licence test, to the highs and lows of searching for cars and test driving.You'll find negative stuff about any engine tbh, the ones that really stand out are Ford's Ecoboost rubbish and a few others but I've not seen that much negativity about Mazda's Skyactiv. We've had a combined 14 years of service in them in our family and not one has skipped a beat. Congrats on the car, such an epic feeling
Being a tall guy with some additional holiday weight doesn't make things any easier either..
In the end it was between a C-Max (high roof and lots of legroom/head space) and the Mazda.
Both similarly priced with insurance costing within margin, but road tax on the Mazda is practically free!
Also, it's way better looking!!

They are notoriously bad engines. Injector seals fail, fill the oil with sooty gunk, block the oil strainer, kills the turbo, timing chain, big end bearings etc. Inlet manifolds block up with carbon causing issues. Vacuum pumps fail taking out cam bearings. Failed dpf regens fill the oil with diesel and kill the engine. Turbo diverter valves fail and take out the turbo in the process. Oil pump chain known to snap.
Not scaremongering, they're genuinely a **** engine. I would take an Ecoboost all day long over them, at least with the Ecoboost you can change the wet belt and have few other issues.
My only advice would be to have the injector seals done and keep up with regular oil changes using quality oil.
Got a fanless NUC to run home assistant, fallen into the rabbit hole of cards and dashboards
I've got the older MeLE PCG35 fanless with J4125 which has been great so far, with a bit of tweaking it uses hardly any power and performance is fine for most network services and backup tasks. Shame they don't do the Overclock model with something with more cores than the 12450H as it would fit right in with the setup I'm building currently.

My brother has been running Mazdas with these engines for years with overall good reliability, he has run into the carbon build up issue recently with his 2014 Mazda 6 though - £400 bill for cleaning the manifold and new EGR (not sure cost on that) - but that was 11 years and over 100K miles on it.
My only complaint with them is they seem to lack a bit of mid power band grunt, quick off the line though - especially with a "stage 2" remap the MPS will embarrass a surprising amount of cars up to where it starts to run out of grunt in the mid band (though I don't think the MPS has the Skyactiv engine).

I was intrigued enough to Google this and came across a Reddit thread discussing them, literally not a single problem and some engines over 300k miles.
Unless I'm missing something and it's a different engine, seems fine to me?

That’s a different engine. The 2.2 is the problematic one.
It is running HA at 5w most of the time, highest I have seen is around 10w.
I am running the Overclock X5 8 core 12 thread as my main computer in my shed, use more power and has a fan. Most of these are overpower for the HA but I want to use it as a DVR and integrate AI image interpretation to text.... out of my depth

Genuinely life changing if you embrace it and get in a habit of using it regularly. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!Considering I can't seem to run that much now without picking up an injury, no matter how slow I ramp up my distance, I thought I'll get something low impact.

It is only as good as what you put in but it is fun and plenty of different type of classes to keep you motivated.
Find a few instructors which you enjoy and you will be addicted hopefully.
